As it turned out, we were the only guests staying at The Briars on the Monday-Tuesday stay; which somewhat reduced the level of service available; however, the staff were very hospitable. We stayed in the Jefferson Davis suite which was wonderful. The Briars, as a whole, could use some updating and quite a bit of exterior repairs, but it sits on a wonderful area of the bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. Our suite included a porch which partially overlooked the river and was a relaxing area for reading or just sitting and watching the boats and barges go by. The bed was probably the best we have ever slept on in a hotel, and the breakfast was simply incredible unless you don't like a big southern breakfast that includes eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, and cheese grits. It is a bit difficult to find [you have to drive through the parking lot of the Vue hotel to get to the entry for The Briars] but once there you feel as if nothing else is going on around you; plus it is very close to most of the best that Natchez has to offer. All in all, it could have been better, but I would still highly recommend The Briars if you are visiting Natchez. As to restaurants, we would highly recommend the Magnolia Grill as well as Roux 61. Magnolia Grill, in particular, sits next to the river whereas Roux 61 is back on Hwy 61; but the food at both was quite good. Roux 61 has a more varied menu and the food was excellent.
