Noisy

Posted 01-Feb-2016
You could hear every noise outside like it was in the room with you. None of the vending machines worked and when i went to complain i was told they would send water up to the room, i was charged $16 for two bottles of artisan water. I was never asked if it was ok nor did i give permission for such a thing. Although the rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. Most of the staff is helpful and nice. The location was great, and close to all major attractions. Not exactly what a four star hotel should be but all in all not a completely horrible experience.

Couples Get Away

Posted 31-Jan-2016
Pros: The rooms were very nice and the concierge was very helpful in giving making reservations and giving us advice on sites to see.
Cons: The hotel is very large and the rooms are set up like bungalows, so there is a lot of walking to get to your room.
Location: The hotel was close to the Fisherman's Wharf and Cannier Row ideal if you like to take long walks.
My husband and I enjoyed the Monterey area and the hotel.

Perfect celebration!`

Posted 30-Jan-2016
Pros: The feel of luxury, like old Hollywood. The attention to extras, like fresh made sangria, wine tasting, warm cookies, awesome breakfast.
Location: Close to shops, although very hilly. But free shuttles to restaurants.
This was the perfect place to stay to celebrate my husband as he retired after 45 years with a company. It was just the right atmosphere to relax, refresh and start a new chapter...

Great services. A few room for improvement.

Posted 27-Jan-2016
Great stay at Portola. Beautiful hotel lobby!! The staff was wonderfully attentive and friendly to talk with. 5 stars alone on staff services!!! However i personally would not rate the hotel 4 stars. Lack of wayfinding and circulation is bad, we found a hard time to get from our room to other amenities. Also lacking in room amenities. No slippers, no toothbrush, found a used q-tip lying on the floor. Overall small improvements can be made for the better. Would love to stay again after the improvement (;

The renovation of the hotel was a tad inconvenient. Multiple elevators had to be taken to reach the 6th floor. Carpets were being washed in hallways. Not planning to stay here again until the renovations are completed

Good hotel! Good location. Pay attention at the assigned room at the reception. I had one next to the elevator and it was noisy. Also, Due to renovation, we had to take 2 elevators.

Rip off.

Posted 05-Jan-2016
Pros: Not much. It was physically nice and in a good location, but that didn't make up for the extra $100 I wasn't expecting to pay.
Cons: How about free WiFi in the room, free self parking, and a little breakfast. And what about a reasonable charge for a small pet.
Location: We couldn't wait to get back on the road and out of there so we didn't do anything in the area
I thought I was reserving a $159/night room which was pet friendly. I expected to pay $10-$20 extra for my small dog as I have in many other hotels/motels. The pet charge was $50. I self parked in their lot and when I got the final bill I found that cost me another $19. Another $26 in various taxes and fees. Total for one night was $252 On top of all of that, there was no free WiFi in the room ($10 for that which I passed on) and there was no free breakfast included. $159>$252 One night. Rip off.
