The hotel is in a beautiful old house with plenty of character. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice and the staff always pleasant and helpful. The hotel and bedrooms were very clean. My only negatives were concerning the pool area. The sun beds needed updating, particularly the mattresses and there were were only 4 parasols. These were totally insufficient with the high summer temperatures.
Stunning location, amazing views and free upgrade!
This is not 4* and not by a long stretch. We received an upgrade to a suite, which was a kind gesture for our wedding anniversary, but the reality was that was where the hospitality ended. The hotel is worn out. The reception is tired and the check in process is underwhelming. Breakfast is absolutely DIRE! We are in Italy! Amazing produce- how can this be so bad?! The suite was nice but woefully under equipped, we had to ask for an iron and ironing board, no glasses or a bottle opener, only one english speaking TV channel. The air conditioning does not work and there was a leak in the bathroom ceiling. The pool area is nice but there is none of the fabulous view of the hills that the town is known for. The sunbeds are worn out. We had to ask three times for pool waitress service as there is no accessible bar area. I would never recommend this hotel, they have zero customer service and the place is in dire need of a complete makeover from top to bottom not just some modern rooms in an extension across the road. The little village is cute. Don't try the fish restaurant, it's vile. Il Cucco is fabulous.
Grand old hotel. Well located in Old town. A good base for exploring the highlights of Tuscany. Staff helpful and pleasant. Bed and pillows not very comfortable for me. Access to an iron would have been appreciated. We had noted that in the breakfast room there were 7 beautiful old religious prints, tastefully and appropriately illuminated which were suddenly removed. We were told that it was because they were deemed inappropriate. This is ITALY for goodness sake. Christian art is part of the culture! The room was suddenly the poorer for this action. Breakfast was fine but became a little predictable over our 7 day stay.
The hotel is lovely but let down by the front of house staff,they had no interest in us what so ever,it was like pulling teeth to even get a smile ,the friendliest people were the lovely ladies that serviced the rooms,we were going to put it all down to us not being to Italy before and it being there way but when your sitting at the bar for 20 mins with staff walking past you ignoring you ! it wears thin after a while then the icing on the cake was listening to a kitchen staff member clearing his throat and spitting whilst working in the kitchen ensured we did not eat in the restaurant again,to sum it up in general one or two very nice people,the hotel is lovely ,the views spectacular ,the local area is amazing,make sure you visit Volterra and Siena but although we had a great time as we are very easy going the general Italian rudeness and contempt for us took us by surprise,we will be going back but not here and we will be prepared LOL.
