The property is amazing. Direct access and view to the ocean and walking distance to town. The rooms however are very tired and need a complete overhaul. Reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The poor restaurant staff are extremely understaffed and at times run off their feet. Unfortunately whilst we were there they were undergoing renovations to the restaurant and bar area which wasn’t pleasant when trying to have a nice relaxing breakfast. We opted to eat out after this experience. Pool areas are lovely and so is the outdoor seating areas.

After booking online I got a text telling me that the restaurant was closed for the duration of our stay. Then another text saying that if we arrived after 6 we would use their late check in system. We arrived at 5.40 and were greeted by locked doors anyway. Found our room in a breeze block building 2 blocks away from the resort. Once negotiated carparking (not easy in a medium sized car) we could barely squeeze into the motel door. Room was a good size, old furnishings with comfortable bed but there was a pizza crust behind the bedside table and a 2" cockroach greeted us welcome (welcome to the tropics!). The back of our room opened to a stunning little rainforest garden with a gazebo and swimming pool. Tea and coffee with milk, wine glasses all provided. It was a quiet night so we slept well. Shower adequate, no bodywash but shampoo and conditioner and bar soap provided. Bathroom was clean.

The receptionist was very nice and the property was straight on the beach. The windows of the hotel room were dirty and green algae growing from the outside of the window. The water system in the bathroom was noisy.

The staff was excellent- friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. These were the positives - on the flip-side: take careful note of the cancellation policy!!! I tried to negotiate a postponement because of cyclone Jasper 6 days prior but the hotel wouldn't budge. Not the hotel's fault that we decided to proceed but once there it was a disappointing experience. The hotel is very run-down and to give them credit, they are in the midst of renovations but we were put in a room with the scaffolding right at the window. The roads were cut off meaning no-one could get in or out and they couldn't find us a better room??? The booking process was painful - provide details already provided again, receive a code, email confirmation to the receptionist right there and then it took 3 goes with the credit card :-( The restaurant was very handy and the food was tasty but we ordered cocktails, entrees, main meals and a bottle of wine and received it in a disjointed order: entrees with main meal 2 minutes later (no parmesan and truffle chips as per the menu - just plain chips), wine and lastly the cocktails. Unfortunately, because of the cyclone we had to stay an extra 2 nights but couldn't stay in the same room because it was allocated to other travellers. Again, the roads were flooded and no-one could get in or out. How were these travellers going to get to the hotel??? By boat maybe or by helicopter maybe.

The advertised price was not what we were charged. Expedia said 94 and we paid $130. We were sent to our rooms luggage in hand to another building at least 500m away. No help with luggage no offer to use the dollies which were abundant but we didn’t see until later. The only other downside was a lack of lounge chairs on the beach. that would have been a nice feature. other than thatit was awsome

Shower pan badly designed and floods bathroom, water also passing into living area as well. Room ok, hotel nice. Checkout Staff couldn't care less about shower leaking hence i think they already know there was a problem. Not impressed.

Beautiful pool and great dining options. Excellent location right on the beach. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Beds were very comfortable. Also was very quiet in the room. Stunning views from room of the beach. I believe all rooms have a similar view. Rooms are getting dated need a refresh. Ants in shower and leaky shower. Walls could use a repaint.

Castaways in a lovely area, close to the beach, shops, restaurants etc, the staff were lovely and very helpful, our room was nice and was clean however the property is aging, and it is showing, it needs work both inside and outside. It could do with a major update. On check out I discovered that we had been over charged on the room rate, the reception staff were unable to correct the error at the time and said they would need to contact Wotif, that was disappointing, I believe it should have been corrected while I was still there. I haven't had any further correspondence, to advise whether the error has been corrected or not.

Our stay was impacted by the weather - constant rain and wind. The outside areas of the resort were wet and so unysable, the inside areas were not that well protected from the unseasonal weather. A lounge, out of the weather, where you could sit and read would have provided great relief from our room.

We stayed 4 nights & were given a room with a view over the iron roof of the bar & dining area. They did change our room to one with a good view for the last 2 nights but Castaways should tell customers first that not all rooms are the same or offer a discounted rate. Also the place is really tired & is in real need of a refit . Furtermore tv remotes didn't work nor did the microwave whilst kitchen utensils were basic. Our meals in the overpriced restaurant were dreadful. So it's a place to avoid despite it being on a beautiful beach. I would not recommend a stay given what they charge.

We stayed one night for our anniversary in the two story apartment and it was very comfy. We wished we’d booked in for a few days to really enjoy the beach views! Very clean and tidy, very nice restaurant. Only complaint is the vertical blinds that hit against the window when you have the fan on and there’s no option to open them all the way up.

Best Breakfast I had in my 3 weeks stay in Australia, delicious and fresh! Best Avocado Toast and Pancakes. I’m craving them now! The room was okay, can do a bit of renewal specially on the furniture as it was stained and looking very old, and well as part of the tropics my husband found a cockroach on the bathroom that he didn’t inform me about till we left as I have a severe phobia with them. Service was good, and we enjoyed our stay.

The room itself was a little tired from being so well used, but oh my goodness the view! The staff were very accommodating as we needed to check in early before an event close by. The cafe food was fantastic, slightly expensive and unfortunately not air conditioned but again the view doesn’t compare to anything I’ve seen.

Best location but poor staffing. Pool could not be used because it's under maintenance but there was no warnings or notices on the website or in the chat feature prior to booking. Receptionist was barely apologetic and offered that we should have received a text AFTER we booked. Despite this not happening and not receiving any notice, we were given a slight shrug of the shoulders, a promise to tell the manager and the option to swim in the pool 200 metres across the road. Pool is essential in February in Nth Qld. Just one barman meant that drink service around the pool was slow and you needed to keep getting up to order. Cocktails were good and he was trying his hardest. Two bedroom apartment didn't have an air-conditioner in the second room. It was hot and you couldn't close the door for privacy. Toilet and shower facilities were in the main bedroom with no door or screening. Sofa bed had a sign in it NOT TO BE USED even though it was advertised as a bed online. Overall your paying for the location and nothing more. There is very little that is resort standard.
