B & B with lots of character

Posted 31-Aug-2015
Pros: The location, the friendliness, the creamy porridge.
Cons: We had no complaints.
Location: Lovely village, with plenty of beautiful countryside right on the doorstep.
We really liked this place. It had lots of nice, thoughtful little touches and is decorated tastefully and warmly.

Limited space spoils otherwise excellent hotel

The proprietor has done everything possible to make his hotel attractive and comfortable but the lack of space in the driveway, parking area, staircase and bedroom spoil the experience.

Characterful guest house well placed in main street but nice and quiet. Fab breakfast and it's also worth booking in for an evening meal. Nice personal touches.

Small but has everything you need.

Posted 06-Apr-2015
Pros: Breakfast and service.
Cons: Our room had too much furniture which made it hard to move around. Less is more when the room is small. Very lovely room though.
Location: Wonderful, beautiful.
There was charm in abundance with a cute room in a nice village. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was fab. We even got an Easter treat. The car park is maybe not for the faint hearted as the passage is narrow. My husband chickened out but I found it fine.

Nice guest house close to local points of interest

Posted 29-Mar-2015
Pros: Superb breakfast, clean fresh bed sheets and towels
Location: Lovely French restaurant 50 yards away, high force and low force waterfalls and Barnard castle
Had really enjoyable stay at Brunswick, only drawback is the very narrow access to rear car park.

The service was terrible, left knocking for 10 minuets before walking through the bar into his kitchen, then the Internet did not work Breakfast - I had a 8am booking what I was 5 minuets early for and left at 8.10 for work still waiting and hungry with once again no one there whiling ringing the bell I had paid for brekki and did not get it Would not recommend at all

Great town, great B&B

Posted 30-Sep-2014 on Hotels
Clean, comfortable and friendly. Fresh milk instead of plastic is a definite bonus and the only minor criticism was the narrow access for cars which was a little tight for my Audi A4 but a lovely secure parking area once you got in. The breakfast choices were excellent and I thought we provided a good selection at our small B& in Wales but nothing compared to this. We would definitely stay again if we are ever over that way.

Bijou room but so charming and comfortable

Posted 09-Sep-2014
Pros: Fresh fruit and milk in the room. Lovely soft towels.
Cons: The entrance to the car park was very narrow and not accessible by anything larger than a car; not something that can be improved due to buildings
Location: As we were only there for one night we didn't discover much of the location but a nice little town, was like stepping back in time.
Perfect overnight accommodation en route to the Great North Run. The room was compact but lovely and clean with everything provided, including real fresh milk in the fridge! Bed so comfortable and had a peaceful slumber, much-needed prior to my run! Breakfast catered for all tastes; fresh fruit, cereals, full English, etc and my porridge was perfect served with fresh cream and syrup, yum! Andrew was a very hospitable host and I would highly recommend his charming guest house, not just as a stop-over but as a base to explore the local area.
