Pleased to have returned.
A return trip after a few years. Enjoyed stay even more than the first time. Which is good because we have frequently recommended this hotel to other people ! Delightful riverside spot

Very disappointing experience. The walls were paper thin. The room was bare minimum, bad bed, pillows rock hard. Could hear water draining from the rooms above all night, and there were rat droppings on the patio. Only plus was the location.

Fascinating archeological history discovered during the building. Fantastic salads and toasted sandwiches available and a comfortable lounge/dining room in which to eat. Good wine and beer options too

Convenient modern hotel with parking.
Very modern recently constructed hotel. The centre of town is a steep 5 minute walk up steps or a ramp. A gentler walk is available up the road. Lively views over the river.

Nice room and staff. Parked our motorcycles on car park which felt safe. Noisy at night though with slamming doors and other noise

Hotel in Mertola with fantastic view of the river
Modern hotel with lovely view of the river. The main part of the town is up the hill from the hotel. There is a nice area to sit and a pool out front. Room, which was a little small, had good air conditioning and WiFi and TV with lots of English channels. There is a useful bar/ cafe outside. A fairly small modern hotel in a good position.

Great base to explore Mertola
Hotel Museu is a great base from which to explore the astonishing town of Mertola. It has an archeological excavation on the ground floor - just opposite our bedroom - and gets you into the right vibe immediately. Good breakfast buffet and well tended small swimming pool. Comfortable and well appointed room. Many good dining options within easy walking distance.

Suite Was Fantastic—Luxe Sleeping on Roman Ruins!
I loved EVERYTHING! The staff was lovely. The modern hotel is built on Roman ruins—with a museum right in the lobby! Utterly cool! The hotel overlooks the river and my room was fantastic! Beautiful, comfortable, four poster bed, small living area, windows and shimmering white gossamer sun drapes, very nice shower and bathroom, small private patio overlooking the river and up to the castle. First rate breakfast—eggs, muesli, fruit, plus Iberian standards. I loved this place—I could have stayed for a week! Dreamy!

Flooded with light
Modern functional hotel, in a great location and with ancient ruins in the basement. Rooms comfortable and spotless and filled with light. Great in the less sunny parts of the year. Total bargain and Mertola is well worth a couple of days stopover.

Hotel in excellent position
Excellent position. Lovely pool with view of river. Good parking. Good breakfast. Rooms modern and fine, a bit like an Ibis style. Way walk to the town area, where there are nice cafes and restaurants.

Nice place to stay in Mertola
Overall nice place and clean and perhaps one of the nicest hotels in the town. Felt a little nickel and dimed with breakfast being an add on and pool towels costing extra.

The staff was friendly and helpful during check in. The room was immaculate. They have a beautiful looking pool, but we did not get a chance to enjoy it, since the temp was in the high 90s F during our stay. It was close to the old town. We would recommend this place.

The property was within walking distance to museums. I did park for free at the round about and walked to the hotel. There was some parking at the hotel where you would be on a narrow road going both directions on a steep hill.

Good view of the old town and the river from our room, helpful staff, restaurants quite near (several within 10 minutes walking distance), room clean and spacious enough, breakfasts perfectly adequate. Overall it did the job for us and good value for money.

A pleasant surprise
This is a small boutique hotel very close to the river so most rooms have river views. During our first stay we had a corner room with a lovely big bathroom. When we returned for a second stay, we had a smaller room but it was still comfortable. The staff is helpful and quite flexible with special requests. It was also very cheap to have tea, coffee and a beer at the bar or patio. Morning breakfast was in another building, just a hop across the yard. It was not a big spread but what they do have is of good quality. We especially loved the croissants. We were also recommended some very nice restaurants by the front desk staff. We went to one particular favourite three times!!!

Nice boutique hotel. The museum is an unique feature. The location of the hotel is close to the clock tower and castle. Hotel is well maintained and staffs are friendly.

Good value for the price
Chose this because it was between Algarve and Evora. Not an exciting town but the castle on the hill is lovely at night and worth the climb. Hotel is nice but bed was very firm. Nice breakfast and good value for the price.

Check in was very slow. Room was clean and tidy if a little compact. We had views of the castle if you put your head out of the window. Breakfast was adequate nothing special. Good value for the money

Great location by the river.
Very nice stay with everything we needed. Breakfast was great. The room had plenty of space. The only bad part for me was the really hard mattress....not my preference. We could walk to some great sightseeing and nice restaurants.

Great location overlooking river
Good restaurants nearby, terra utopica and tamije, both open at 1930 which is ideal for anglo saxons! River cruises and canoes can be hired. There are many museums in the castle including an interesting spinning and weaving cooperative.

Great view from balcony
Stayed at this hotel for 3 days while bird watching in the area of Mértola. From our balcony we enjoyed watching kayaking and paddle boarding along the river below. Very nice breakfast was served in Beria Rio next door. Limited wifi from our room 302 but better wifi when having breakfast at the Beria Rio. Nice little reading area in the room but would require more lighting in the evening. Would stay here again.
