Kick back and relax in this charming, stylish space that is both calm and English-inspired. This studio is located above the garage and next to the main manor (Lichen Manor). Nestled in the heart of picturesque Mendocino, this studio is lovingly restored with an English-style brimming with history and charm. It features a sitting area with a couch, a coffee and tea station for your morning brew, and a mini-fridge for snacks, meals, and beverages. For extra guests, a queen futon. However, first, some background on this property... Originally commissioned by world-renowned seascape artist E. John Robinson and his wife, June, designed the main manor home that is next to this studio, which was inspired by their travels through the English countryside in the late 1970s and early '80s. Designed to echo the timeless elegance of a traditional half-timbered cottage manor, this residence is both a personal legacy and a living piece of art. E. John Robinson (1932–2008) was celebrated for his breathtaking seascapes—over 4,000 in his lifetime—and was featured on four Reader’s Digest covers. His art instruction books and best-selling videos brought his passion to students around the world. The main home was his retreat, a space of reflection, creativity, and natural beauty. Today, the main home (Lichen Manor) has been thoughtfully re-imagined by its current owner—also an artist—who was inspired by the soul of the space and the legacy left behind. While preserving the original heart of the home, they introduced a warm, country-modern style. The yellow pine resewn flooring, imported from a Georgia mill, sets the tone. But. There is no kitchen- only a coffee maker and toaster oven. No basic kitchen supplies (ie scissors, can opener, anything to remove food from said toaster oven, or utensils beyond plastic ones). One towel per person. Nothing to clean anything with. Including dish soap for the mugs. Or a broom to clean up any sand. Or a garbage can for the coffee grounds beyond the one in the bathroom. I told the host ahead of time i was bringing dogs- there was no hose to wash them down after taking them to the beach but there is spout outside. My bedding came two hours after their strict check in time. Not very receptive to messages. And the wifi is not strong or secure. There is also no form of entertainment in the home (tv, bluetooth speaker, books... nothing). Each day i had to ask the people renting the ajoining house to please ensure theyd leave me a parking spot because they were throwing parties- management should have let them know ahead of time. None of this is the case for the other two units. This one showed no pre-emptive basic consideration for guests while the other two have attention to detail.Definitely dont recommend. ##### Harmeet V.
