We really enjoyed the hotel lobby and room. We never ate at the restaurant because there was so much choice right outside the door along the river. The pool and hot tub were nice. Our only criticism would be the inattentive fitness area/pool staff: sometimes we signed in, sometimes not, they seemed not really interested. They didn't always greet you as you were coming and going. The sauna was not always very hot. Even after I asked the girl at the desk to adjust the temperature, it was not hot. For such a luxurious 5 star hotel I expected much better.
My booking with "Superior Room" is an awesome one. My room was facing the Spring Street, right behind the staircase and in the middle of the building so it was extra quiet and the view is a nice one facing the parliament. The air-conditioning machine (YES it's a dated machine and looks old) made a little noise at night but it should be fine if you don't need it to work out -10'C for you.
Location - good location to most tourist spots. trust me you don't need to live that near the railway station.
I tried the afternoon tea here with friends, who had some food allergy, and the staff took it seriously. The sparkling wine is very fine, adding an extra pleasure to the happy time. The scones are of traditional taste. SHAME that they don't do take-away for the scones since we were 30 minutes late and cannot finish the whole set on time. If you like afternoon tea, make sure you arrive there right on time so that you can finish the whole set.
Overall, a hotel that you have nothing to complain with, and that you hope that it will run forever.
We recently stayed at the Pensione for three nights. The hotel is located within a 5 minute walk from Southern Cross station, where the Skybus shuttle can take you to/from the airport, so the location is quite convenient. Multiple tram stops are within walking distance, making getting around the CBD a breeze.
The room was admittedly smaller than expected, with little standing space, but all the furniture and decorations were of high quality, and we enjoyed our stay. The bed was particularly comfortable, and my girlfriend viewed it as a highlight of the stay.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms clean, tidy and comfortable. Limited shelf space in the bathroom made it a bit difficult (especially for women). The hot water is set high so mind when running the shower.
The pool complex was clean and the pool was lovely to enjoy after being out for the day. We spent at least an hour in the pool each night we were there.
The hotel was close to tram stops so it made travelling round the city very easy, and within an easy walk to most places. Very close to the markets.
Would stay there again.
Australia's second-largest city, Melbourne's city centre incorporates the central business district, extending from Queen Victoria Market in the north, west to the Etihad Stadium, and south to Federation Square. The district is home to many corporate headquarters, financial institutions, theatres, Chinatown, and an established population of students and young professionals.
