"Great hotel"
The beach was great, had nice surf for the kids and had a nice accessible reef for snorkeling. Rooms were top notch and the restaurants were tasty. It is pricy, but you get what you pay for.

Pocket Guide: Green / Sustainable Hotels in Maui Island

Staying in Maui Island’s Green Hotels

Comfortable and practical, eco-friendly hotels on Maui Island work hard to help you keep your carbon footprint to a minimum during your stay. Many of Maiu’s sustainable hotels and resorts are within walking distance of the island’s popular beaches and attractions, and also offer airport shuttle services, so you can cut down on your driving and stay green.

How Maui’s Green Hotels Stay Eco-Friendly

Many of Maui’s sustainable hotels are run by internationally famous luxury brand hotels, think Fairmont, Hyatt and Marriott, in Lahaina and the upmarket Wailea resort. From reusing towels and donating little-used toiletries to water-efficient bathrooms and community support projects, these multi-national brands put a focus on sustainability and responsibility.

After you’ve enjoyed a traditional Maui meal or enjoyed an evening luau, which helps to keep the Hawaiian culture alive, know that untouched food is donated to local initiatives.

Green Things to Do near Your Maui Hotel

With forests and beaches, waterfalls and national parks, Maui has a wealth of things to do that leave no carbon footprint. Ask your eco-friendly hotel to arrange a guided hike with experts to talk you through the biodiversity of the area, or head off alone.

Iao Valley State Park feels like an untouched paradise, but it was also where King Kamehameha fought Maui’s warriors to win and unify the Hawaiian Islands in 1790. Enjoy a day hiking through the rainforest, stopping off at waterfalls and swimming holes to cool off or tuck into your picnic.

One of Maui’s greenest towns, Paia on the North Shore is a great place to visit if you’re eco-conscious. Pop into the organic and natural grocery store to pick up a picnic then head off into for a tropical walk to Twin Falls on the Road to Hana.

The Road to Hana is an iconic experience, leading you from the busy-ness of Maui’s resorts and into what feels like untouched territory. While most people drive to see the bamboo forest, rugged cliffs and 400-foot waterfall, you could also hike or arrange a horseback ride to feel more at one with nature.

You’re never short of things to do in Maui from your green hotel.
