"Great All Round Hotel, Excellent Location & Staff."
All staff were very pleasant and helpful throughout, in particular the reception staff. The hotel was located in a pleasant avenue handy for the beach and prime resort facilities but also for the railway station which allows easy access to Monaco and other local towns of interest. The property has a formal restaurant which we didn't try, and an informal cocktail bar with an external terrace area and limited but excellent food, but there are so many local restaurants and bars nearby, if the limited menu wasn't for you. We only booked for four nights so had to take car tours of Monaco (a must), Antibes and Cannes arranged with reception which were great, but slightly more expensive than advertised as we were told that there had been a price rise since the brochures were issued. Local public transport (train and bus) looked very easy and inexpensive, but suffered from staff strikes while we were there. We got the impression that this isn't unusual, so if you are planning on using them check ideally before arrive. We will go back to Nice, and most Likely will stay with the Holiday Inn again.
Walking distance to major Nice sites is a real plus. However, any of the lower floor rooms that face the front are noisy enough to interrupt sleep when the window is open. My hearing loss is sufficient that I wear hearing aids in both ears, but the noise outside the hotel was disruptive until after midnight.

My first impression of Hotel Ellington was excellent thanks to the wonderful staff on reception, who looked after my bag until my room was ready.
The room itself (218) was at the end of a corridor and wonderfully quiet. The beds (two singles arranged as a double) weren't the best I have ever slept in, but they were more than adequate for a short stay. The bathroom was fairly clean, little touches like free water in the minibar were greatly appreciated and I liked the large double doors which opened onto a small balcony.
The staff continued to be exceptionally helpful throughout my stay, including providing excellent advice on where to eat and where to catch certain buses. I also enjoyed two exceptional cocktails during the hotel bar's happy hour.
Not sure that this is a 4 Star hotel.
The restaurant does not serve lunch or evening meals.
Only a curtain separates the pool area and reception. Guests walk through the foyer in bathrobes and slippers.
Limited choice at the bar.
We had a short 4 night break in the Mercure Grimaldi in Nice and we were really pleased with our choice of hotel. The location of the hotel is brilliant, really central to everything you need to see and do. As well as this the hotel itself is nicely decorated and the rooms are very clean and comfortable.
The hotel is a minute's walk from the main thoroughfare and about 10 minutes walk to the beaches and train station. The staff we met were very friendly and the room, although compact, was clean, well-organised and had everything we needed. It was quiet at night, despite being close to the city centre. There are restaurants on the same street, and many others in easy walking distance.
I stayed in this hotel for a week. It was in the perfect location - Central to everything!
Staff were superb- helped me with everything I needed
I asked for a quiet room and the hotel staff were very accommodating.
The hotel only has one main lift which is slow and noisy. I could hear it operating from my room even though my room was not near the lift!!
Beach is walking distance
Right next to the main shopping street too!
Nice's main square, Place Masséna is lined with palm trees and pines and is known as a place to meet and for hosting many important public events. Often used for concerts thanks to its size and central location, it is also a favorite spot during festivals and traditional celebrations like the yearly carnival parade in February. The old town and the Promenade des Anglais are a short stroll away.
