"Mediocre Stay, Despite Great Decor, Food and Staff"
I stayed for one night and was really excited to finally have an Ace NYC experience. However, the best parts of my stay were all things I could have experienced without actually being a guest. For example, the decor, the bar and photo booth in the lobby, the shopping, the central location, the oyster bar (can't recommend enough) and the friendly staff were all top-notch. But I was much less satisfied when staying in my actual room. I booked a mini room, which was fine - the bed was comfortable, I was staying alone for one night, and I didn't mind having less space for a great location. But the other amenities were limited or expensive, and the hallways were very noisy at night. (Or maybe my walls and door were unusually thin. Regardless, it was like staying on a dorm floor.) My main issue, though, was that the room was SO. HOT. Even when setting the temperature as low as it could go (65 F), the unit continued to make my room even warmer, eventually reaching nearly 80 degrees inside. I had to open a window (in February) to cool down (which, of course, then made my room freezing cold after a few hours ...). If you're splurging for a bigger room or loft, maybe the sleeping experience will be as comfortable and cool as the lobby and dining experience. But overall, I was left feeling like I spent too much for a little. It was of no fault of the professional and kind staff, but something that could be addressed when making upgrades or describing and pricing rooms accurately.
