This was supposed to be the top hotel in Mangalore. Unfortunately, I felt that the AC was the only top class part in the hotel.
There is a weird fishy smell if you stand for any time outside the hotel. Probably due to the fish market being close, and likely not a fault of the hotel. But that gives you an idea of the area it is in.
The hotel staff are extremely smug as if working in a "Taj" facility makes them any better than the service staff at any good hotel. I found this very irritating, especially having traveled quite a bit around the world and in India.
The rooms are barely acceptable for the price with outdated bathrooms, poor internet service, and small TVs. The bed linens were scratchy - the top cover is silky but the actual sheets you lie on cause itching. Even by US standards, the hotel is definitely on the more expensive side for the quality that you receive for the price.
The breakfast buffet was good, but not exceptional.
So overall, I was really disappointed with the service, beds, and definitely the price I paid for it. I should have saved my Orbucks for another trip.
