I think this property needs work and attention to be classed as VIP/4-5 Star. The main thing for me was cleanliness and attention to detail. Within my room, there was black mould on the shower head. In the spa, the “thermal” shower head was coated in black mould as well and that made me question the entire cleanliness of the spa such as the sauna and steam room - they also do not provide any robes nor slippers to cover your body/feet. The hallways, doors, and bathrooms within the hotel are very dated and the carpets are all dirty and aged. The lobby feels like you are entering a prestigious hotel, but there is a lack of attention to the guest experience and ensuring comfort. Personally, I cannot stay in a hotel where the cleanliness is an issue.

Having experienced a few issues the hotel management spoke to me and I must say I was very impressed with how they handled things. Some people stood out especially the concierge, Bev in the breakfast room. Abdul on the night shift, Tom and Holly on the management team.

Wonderful stay as always at the Midland but be aware! Receptionist in the spa insisted that you must book to use the pool or gym! Although we are post COVID I’ve never had to book to use the leisure facilities but they were adamant. Checked on the website and nothing is mentioned about having to book to use the pool. Hotel reception check in and out was exceptional as were the bar and restaurant staff who couldn’t do enough for you….sadly let down on the experience in the spa but will be back.

Every guest is eligible for a 1-hour complimentary access to the Rena Spa facilities, subject to their availability. Guaranteed time in the Spa is only secured if part of Spa packages. This is a service used by both external and hotel guests and its availability can be very limited on busy days, which is why it is available for 1 hour and only after you check in. I do apologize if this was not communicated effectively by my colleagues whilst you were being served on the day and I shall definitely share this with their Manager so that they issue further training.Looking forward to having you over again,

Lovely 5 star hotel. Awesome breakfast and posh looking room. My single bed and the chairs not soft though. No extractor or loo brush in bathroom. Double yellows outside not east to drop off luggage, guests. Suggest a Drop off zone, like other posh hotels have. Very helpful staff. Overall would stay again.

The receptin area was good The staff were excellent The breakfast was good The entertainment was good the reception room was good also. Our room 505 was very small decor tired bath room excellent, The room was very noisy all night long.Partly due to the air conditioning Mainly noise from outside.

Even though it has recently been refurbished there was mould all over the bathroom and the shower tray didn’t drain. The Elmiss products were nice though. The net curtains were filthy and the room was dusty although it was well stocked. The bed was comfy but communication off the staff wasn’t great so we missed breakfast. When I rang for room service I was told I was to have put my request in via door hanger before 2. I told him I wasn’t told that even though I mentioned I wanted breakfast to my room when I checked in. He said it was explained on the welcome letter, It wasn’t! We were overall disappointed with our stay and won’t choose The Midland again.

I booked this hotel on a Friday for a Saturday night. When it was check in time we got told the spa was fully booked for the day and we could not use the facilities. This should be stated before booking the hotel as we solely booked to stay here for the spa

Very noisy rooms due to windows being propped open for makeshift a/c units. No gym, which is advertised and spa is small difficult to book. Breakfast is great and catering staff lovely.

Due to our iconic and central location of our city centre hotel, external noise is out of our control, unfortunately. The Midland is a Grade II listed building and our interference in terms of the infrastructure and insulation of the windows is very limited.

We have a legal obligation to fully evacuate the building once the alarm goes off, as health and safety are a top priority. There are multiple fire exits in the building, as well as a muster point by the Manchester Central convention centre. Colleagues of mine are always located in key locations to direct people accordingly. I do apologize if we did not communicate all the details at once, evacuating our guests and members of staff in the safest and more efficient way is always our goal. We really appreciate your feedback and be rest assured that we are always looking at ways to improve.

Restaurant was closed! A hotel with no food, really? Asked staff where to eat & was directed a long way off. Yet I discovered a nice restaurant across the road. Not impressed. My room lights went around 11pm. Woken up by a loud fan or aircon, heater, whatever at 5:30am.

I had heard good things about the Midland but I would say it is pretty average. I booked the hotel partly because they say there is a gym, but be warned this is currently not open which was extremely disappointing. When I enquired about this at check in there was no offer of compensation. My room was cold despite putting thermostat up to max but as it was a twin room at least I could use the second duvet. Noise from tram late into the night. Spa very small. Room otherwise was reasonably nice and clean.

While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of.We have recently experienced a burst pipe in our Gym, that has flooded the area entirely. To assure health and safety is preserved, we have closed the outlet off, until safe to be used by guests. I can only apologize about the lack of availability on that occasion. Yours Sincerely,

Tried to rearrange, which Expedia tried to conduct. Hotel agreed to change of date but then went back on their agreement. Expedia asked for an escalation and I am still waiting for the outcome. Shocking service from the hotel. Won’t be staying with them now.

Excellent stay
As always high quality of rooms and service generally Due to a small fire the previous week the breakfast facilities were not as exceptional as usual but perfectly adequate given the unusual circumstances. I will definitely stay again
