Not what we expected.

Posted 03-Jan-2018
I recently stayed at MacDonald Hotel, near Manchester Piccadilly train station and was pretty disappointed. We were given a room which was a disabled access room... this for 2 young girls was a bit uncomfortable. We couldn't shower without drenching the whole bathroom as there was no shower curtain and instead it was an open plan bathroom with a chair in the shower for people who are unable to stand. The sink was so far down we had to bend over excessively to wash or brush our teeth, because again the room was for wheelchair users. The toiletries provided were for 1 person only, although we had booked for 2 people. The room smelled old and the furniture needed a good clean. When we went to make a cup of tea, the facilities looked like they hadn't been checked or used for about a year. Everything was dusty and there was no sugar available. Additionally, to request fresh milk we had to call room service... who didn't answer. I am very disappointed in the hotel. The pictures on the website looked so lovely and the hotel seemed modern, we felt utterly let down by what we were met with upon entering our room. On the upside, the reception staff are friendly and helpful. Additionally, the food is great at the steakhouse, we had a 3 course meal there and we were very impressed - credit to the chef!

Easy access to the station and the Etihad stadium

Posted 03-Jan-2018
Pros: Location
Cons: Cleanliness
The hotel was scruffy and noisy. There were strange stains on the bed covers and the general feel was that little care had been taken of the rooms. The hotel is in desperate need of a refresh which is a shame as the location and general facilities are ok for the money. If you are going to a game at the Etihad it is about as convieniant as possible for the station, teams and taxis.

Nice hotel

Hotel staff were slow and understaffed, it took 30min to get a drink while there was only 3 people at the bar. The bar prices 2 double vodkas lime and soda £21. I won’t be stay there again.

Central to Piccadilly station

Nice hotel, warm & adequate for our stay. Food overpriced in restaurant & mix up in our steaks. Portions not oversized so would need side orders. Although I had booked accessible room by accident I would have an issues will water not altogether draining into tray & travelling along floor. This I found rather unsafe for me. Bar was very cosy & comfortable. Ordered Bailey's coffee but coffee itself very bitter. Did highlight it to bar staff & was told that a lot of clients experience this & may need to use sugar! Maybe a change of coffee would be questionable.

Christmas Mrakets trip

Posted 11-Dec-2017
Pros: Huge bedroom
Cons: Carpet was quite marked but this was only a minor thing.
Location: Not in the city centre but only a short flat walk to get to all the centre has to offer.
I have stayed at this hotel previously & enjoyed the facilities etc so had no hesitation in booking again. All the staff on reception & in the restaurant were very helpful. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice, room was massive & so was the bathroom, lovely hot shower & very comfortable beds! Was a shame we hadn't booked for longer! Only 10/15 minutes walk into the centre so ideal position.

Close to the Rail station and Metrolink, good sized comfortable rooms. Short walk to shopping and dining and Manchesters tourist spots.

No mini bar

Posted 04-Dec-2017
Pros: Location. Comfy beds.
Cons: No mini bar. Reception staff were frosty on arrival.
Nice hotel. Only downside was that there was no mini bar, not even soft drinks. Coffee and tea making facilities were limited, and no biscuits!!! Also bathroom could have been cleaner - hairs in bath and shower!!
