Comfortable stay with some great views over Manhes

Posted 28-Aug-2017
We were staying in Manchester for the night and decided to stay at the MacDonald Spa Hotel due to its very convenient location, right next to Piccadilly station, and also due to me wanting to stay here for quite some time now as I always used to walk past it. The hotel looks very impressive from the outside – a huge long curvy structure on pillars overlooking London Road on one side, and Piccadilly Station on the other. Check-in was very smooth, and they even had some complimentary lemon water for you to try while you wait. The reception area is quite large with a bar area next to it and a Steak restaurant in the basement. There were only 2 lifts which I found surprising as the hotel is over 8 or 9 floors with a good 50 rooms on each floor. The room, once we finally got there, as it was on the other end of one of the longest corridors I have ever encountered in a UK hotel was very nice, with the highlight being the great views over the Manchester skyline. You have London road below you, Mancunian Way on your left, the Manchester University Campus right ahead, and various buildings including the Hilton tower in the distance. The light from all the cars makes for some great scenery at night, although you can’t hear any of the noise. The room had everything you could need for a short stay including a small table with 2 big comfy chairs, a desk, office chair, safe, ironing board, large tv on the wall. The carpet was a tad di

Classy & convenient for train

Posted 25-Jul-2017
Pros: Big rooms, big bathtub, lavender & tea tree body wash & shampoo, proximity to train station, luxury at a fair price.
Location: Very close to train station. Hotel is not along the 3 free Manchester shuttle routes. Bars & pubs w/in walking distance.
Classy, full service hotel, nice big rooms (we had a double), quiet, clean & comfortable, easy walk to train station. Room had a big bathroom w/ walk-in shower, separate large bathtub (big enough for 2). Pubs and restaurants within walking distance. We came here from London to catch next a.m. flight out of Manchester. (Frequent trains for 15 minute ride to airport.) Wish we had more time to relax and enjoy the luxury and spa services on our last night in UK. Very nice hotel and staff.

Good location

Posted 19-Jul-2017
Pros: Good size room.
Cons: I checked in quickly , with only one person in front of me but there was a queue reaching to the door by the time I had my key.
Good location near Piccadilly Station and town with both Universities less than a mile away. I didn't have a meal or breakfast but the menus looked inviting. My room was large and others looked the same good size. I had a wet room, which was also very large. My room overlooked the road but road noise wasn't intrusive.

What you always want: a generously sized room and great service on reception (Rebecca was perfect!) Then the small things like an urn of cold water in the foyer. Overall, it suited us down to the ground.
