We spent the Saudi weekend (Thursday night to Saturday night) at the Intercontinental Hotel to attend a conference in the hotel. The staff was pretty attentive except when we were attempting to get brunch in the lower level bistro. The attendant forgot my order and my wife wanted a bagel with cream cheese (not quite on the menu...but they had a smoked salmon with cream cheese and on bagel)...and they could not process that order until the Manager on Duty put the request in on behalf of my wife. We were given apologies the next morning by the food service manager in the breakfast buffet...and were given a free ride in their cars anywhere in Bahrain. The room was nice...but the bed a bit soft for my taste...and you need to be a scientist to figure out the master light controller in the room next to the bed. The spa was very nice and no waiting...even on a Saudi weekend! Given all that we experienced (good and bad), we will likely return to the hotel given the proximity to everything that we normally do in Bahrain...and the rates were decent.
This was our first stay at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, but won't be our last. We have stayed at other 4-5 star hotels in Bahrain, and they cannot compare to the level of service we received at the Radisson Blu. We attended a large private event in the ballroom. The decorations were beautiful and the food was amazing. Our room was excellent, very clean and comfortable.
What impressed me most was in the morning when the breakfast buffet was very busy (most of the people were from our large event). The staff was literally running to clear tables, replenish the buffet and serve guest. I met the Guest Services Manager, Sharif, as he cleared a table to seat us. There were other hotel executives pitching in to help, as well. That is service!
I understand the hotel is fairly new, about a year old, but the staff needs to be better trained on customer service. I called room service and ask for an eating utensil and it never was delivered after I waited 2 hours for it. We were also disappointed that the bathroom did not have a bathtub. Also there is a limited menu at the restaurant on the 28th floor but the food was very good.
