Nice hotel, but not near anything, not the beach,

Posted 06-Jul-2015
Cons: The bedside lighting
Location: The St Paul hotel nearby had very good entertainment every night.
The room was adeqate, with the exception of the reading lamps on either side of the bed. They had 25 watt globes and that was the maximum that could be provided.. We complained and the maintenance man removed the shades to make more light but we could only read in bed with great difficulty. The staff were very freindly and helpful. The aircoditioning in the public areas was not sufficient

Stay Someplace Else

Posted 26-Jun-2015
Pros: Nothing. I couldn't wait for my stay to end.
Cons: The professionalism of the front desk staff needs to be improve.
Location: The location is not convenient to sightseeing. It takes a long time to get anywhere on overcrowded city buses.
Everything about this hotel is shabby. The front staff is also nasty with the exception of two Maltese staff members. There is a British woman who tried to get me to pay about 30 USD for 5 breakfasts even though I wouldn't be able to have breakfast on the fifth day. She was nasty and unhelpful throughout my stay. I learned how to avoid her. I was even referred to as "the American" in a denigrating fashion. When I asked which bus went to the Aquarium another staff member said, "Why don't you walk?" "You can walk, can't you?" As for cleanliness, the sheets are not changed on a daily basis. The towels are . The furniture is very old and the mattress is lumpy. In addition, this hotel is located in an area that is a tourist trap. I learned quickly to count my change carefully. It also takes a long time to get anywhere. It can take 45 minutes to one hour to get to the main bus station in Valetta. The buses are crowded so standing up for that amount of time is uncomfortable. If you go to Malta, I would recommend staying in Sliema which is more upscale than the area this hotel is in. This place is not cheap and there are better hotels even in Bugibba that cost about the same. Beware of this 3 star hotel!

room only option

Posted 16-Jun-2015
Pros: not much on this trip, swimming pool was refreshing and bar staff were frendly
Cons: the bar in the hotel needs to be opened, refurb in rooms air con to actually work, and decent entertainment to suit all ages not just the more mature
Location: location is good not to far from bars and resturants and sea front
We have stayed at this hotel the previous year on a B&B option, we found it to be cheap and chearful and was pleased with the amount we had paid, This year we asked for a triple room as we had our son come with us. The room was clean enough but needed work door in the bathroom was splintered taps were difficult to turn on (one day we had no water) the air con was no existent, we had to ask for a fan for the room which we had to wait over 3 days for which ment lack of sleep due to the heat to top this off we seemed to have been eaten alive as we had to keep the doors open. There was no table on the balcony just some plastic chairs. We were at the front of the hotel so just had the view of the street. We were on the 4th floor and the lift was out of service on the day we were going home, no offer of assistance to help bring the suitcases down. Entertainment was very poor and only the pool bar was open ntil 11pm the bar inside only opened once for a football game.Drinks were a bit pricey.

Enjoyable stay at the Topaz, Malta!

Posted 19-May-2015
Pros: Decent sized room, overlooking the pool. Very helpful and friendily staff.
Cons: Air conditioning wasn't very effective, hope that can be improved!
Location: Located in a more residential area St Pauls bay a short walk from the promenade, Bugibba square etc. Handy for buses to other parts of the island too
Nice hotel, located in a quieter area but still handy to everywhere.. Room, foyer etc was clean and well presented, decent range of food for breakfast buffet. All staff were very pleasant and helpful which is isn't always the case in a busy hotel! Air conditioning was not working well (they did kindly provide an additional fan) and wifi could do with an upgrade but otherwise a very comfortable stay. Thanks!

Very good for the price you pay. Staff very helpf

Posted 09-Nov-2014
Pros: East going. Excellent staff.
Cons: Definately the pools.
Location: Location quite good. Bugibba could do with being a bit more cleaner.
Moved room twice to find one to our liking. No problem. Could be a bit noisy in the street. But not hotels fault. Clean food good. Indoor pool needs to be a bit bigger. On whole good value.
