This hotel is located a short drive out of Malia, so a car is recommended to visit neighbouring villages and the beach.
The room was spacious, with a nice view and a balcony. The breakfast was decent, although not spectacular (compared to other 5-star hotels in the area). The hotel has a fantastic gym facility, but the indoor pool/jacuzzi was freezing, with broken down heating and seemingly no intention to repair it. The latter was disappointing, as we chose this hotel especially because it offered an indoor pool that was meant to keep the children busy on the rainy days.

We enjoyed our stay, but were unhappy when our 'sea view' room for which we had paid extra, had a view of the beach restaurant. The inside of the room was clearly visible from the bar balcony, so we had to exist behind closed curtains, which was very disappointing. We expected better wi-fi from a 'five star' hotel, especially as 'free wi-fi' was one of their advertised benefits. The food was good at both breakfast and supper. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room would have been good.
The pictures thankfully lived up to expectations and more. Didn't feel the need to venture out of the hotel for food or entertainment as everything on hand. The food was good and a lot of variety. Staff were very friendly and everything well organised. Lovely gardens, lounging area and pools which were well maintained.
Huge comfy beds and fluffy pillows.
Lots of beach beds available around the pool areas and on the beach. Although sandy beaches, Hadn't realised there would be so many flat rocky patches entering the water - just need to walk along the beach a bit.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.

The Notos Heights was not yet open so we were put up in a suite in the Socrates, near the beach. However, we really felt the need to make a high recommendation to the Staff who are owners of both sites. They did everything possible to satisfy us, including tracking us down when we were lost in town. Breakfast was made-to-order by Stella, and eaten poolside. The room was very tastefully decorated and the kitchen was fully outfitted, plus the views from the 2 patios were beautiful. But mostly, it was the kindness and friendliness of the staff/owners that will make us smile when we think of our days in this amazing little town.

Our group of 4 'middle aged' ladies enjoyed our short break of 5 nights at the Socrates in early September. Good location, 10 mins walk to beach and restaurants. Although easy walking distance to 'the strip' ( most places were open, but they were pretty empty), the location of Socrates was so quiet. Very friendly and helpful staff on reception and in the bar which also served a lovely buffet breakfast. Our accommodation was a two bed appt with a double and twin beds. It was quite dated and storage was limited but it was very clean and the air con was efficient. This was our 3rd visit to Malia and we were very happy with our stay here. Would recommend for couples, families or groups of friends looking for a happy, relaxing holiday in the sun.
