Not all the staff can speak English but they really try to understand and accommodate you the best they can. They are very friendly and kind to foreigners. They clean the rooms daily and do an excellent job.
Very pleasantly surprised at end of our trip to the Maldives by the comfort of our room at the Beehive. The location was excellent for our needs--we walked from the Maafushi ferry and the beehive driver dropped us off for out ferry back to the airport. The staff helped us locate several areas where we had business and provided the hotel car-- for the normal small rate. There was no HOT water, just tepid, but this is typical throughout the region. The Internet connectivity was an issue. This will be my first choice to stay in Male again.
"Very beautiful and modern hotel, excellent staff"
I stayed in LAZE hotel 3 days and even as I booked wrongly in expedia they helped me changing the booking even if I stayed a day less than expected. Very nice.
Everything looks very modern and clean, the hotel is very new as well. As it was off-season I got a good discount, so it was also not expensive - around 40€ per night.
The neighborhood is little boring and not too centered, but as Malé is not big, you'll reach everything interesting in 10 minutes walk, so it was good for me. I highly recommend this hotel!
All in all this was a value for money hotel. You could walk around the entire island in less than 1 hour. The pier and local restaurants were just a couple of hundred metres walk from the hotel. Please note that The Maldives is a muslim country, so on Male & Villimale there is NO alcohol and women must dress according to muslim custom. They must be covered from shoulders to just below the knees. There is no need for women to cover their heads. Bikinis and 1 piece swimmers are not acceptable for women. If women go swimming on either of these islands they need to wear a T-shirt (or similar) and a pair of leggings so they meet the female dress code. Out on the resort islands these standards are not required. Don't fall into the trap of only using US dollars in the Maldives. Carry US dollars, but also convert some to the local currency. The locals will try and rip you off if you pay in US dollars and they give change in local currency. The exchange rates they use are not even close to the real exchange rates.
