Incredible Hotel!

Posted 15-Oct-2017
Pros: Location, Amenities, Friendly Staff... pretty much everything!
Location: Location is amazing! Right on Magnificent mile and steps from subway stations nearby. You can't go wrong.
I stayed at this hotel for the Chicago Marathon weekend (as a runner) and they went above and beyond for all runners staying in the Hotel. From the simple Gatorade and granola bar on placed on our desk the night before the race to the shuttle bus and breakfast spread the morning of the race, this hotel went above and beyond. This place is beautiful. Very friendly staff, excellent amenities and well kept facilities. The bed was very comfortable to sleep in and the room was very well kept overall. I can't wait for my return to this hotel next year.

The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. They offer complimentary umbrellas and have a French restaurant on site. The bar is nice also. The rooms a roomy. The bed was a little soft but comfortable overall.

Who designed the bathroom doors?!

Posted 07-Oct-2017
Pros: Central position, efficient staff (mostly), very comfortable bed, impressive views, fun bar.
Cons: Bathroom doors! Solid ones please, giving total privacy.
Location: Very conveniently located for Michigan Avenue and Gold Coast shops.
Coming from Europe we were a little surprised to receive a 'Bonjour' everytime we met a member of staff. Even from the maids. In Chicago?! OK, so it's a French chain, but this is a little bit of an unnecessary pretention. Most staff were friendly and efficient, except perhaps for a couple of staff at breakfast where the service was slow - particularly for America. (One or two waitresses/waiters, on the other hand, stood out for their attention to customers.) What spoilt the experience for us, however, was the bathroom door. We asked to change rooms, only to find the design the same in all bathrooms. Who would think of putting swing doors with a gap at the bottom and also a substantial gap where the doors meet, to a room which not only contains the washing facilities but the toilet as well?! Even when we moved to a suite (where, interestingly, they'd installed a sliding door to the bedroom as, what appeared to be, an afterthought) the bathroom/loo was still virtually open to the sitting area. The reception staff were accommodating when it came to finding us another room.

Not like other Sofitels

Posted 23-Sep-2017
I've stayed at Sofitels multiple times in NYC and Washington DC. Those are outstanding properties and I have never been disappointed. The Chicago Sofitel was very disappointing. Room was a bit rough around the edges. Drapes torn and dirty. Room service menu out of date. TV remote did not work and the man who brought the replacement was rude, acted like there was nothing wrong with the remote, I simply didn't know how to use it. He took the new one out of the bag, waved the empty bag at me and said, "It's new, OK?" I won't be staying here again.

Beautiful views and perfect location

Posted 22-Sep-2017
Pros: Beautiful views and comfortable bed, the bartenders in the bar downstairs make the best dirty martinis!
Cons: A small refrigerator in the room would have been helpful
Location: Conveniently located in the gold coast area/ Rush St, so many bars/ restaurants and beaches close by
I splurged on this hotel for a weekend as an anniversary gift for my significant other. I emailed the hotel and requested a room on a high floor with a beautiful view, and when we checked in, I was delighted to learn that we were placed on the 32nd floor with a view of the John Hancock building. They staff were so accommodating and the bed was luxuriously comfortable. I will definitely stay there again!
