Fantastic place to stay!
We had a private apartment with kitchen, seperate bedroom and balcony, which was perfect for everything we needed. It's a little bit up the hill above Old Town, but not particularly an issue due to the price of Bolts being so low (£3-4 from the centre), and the walk not being too difficult. Very friendly and welcoming staff on arrival, and beautiful gardens in the complex. The pool made the place though, with stunnnig views over the city, sun beds and beach towels provided. There's also a terrace above the pool if you prefer, next to a clubhouse - personal favourite place to sit for dusk. Good size carpark as well if you do rent a car.

The view was fabulous. The kitchen implements were limited. There were very limited cleaning supplies available (my daughter was ill the first evening / night and there was nothing available to allow me to clean up.) A broom is helpful as well.

Thank you for staying at our Quinta. We thank you for your review which is always very helpful to us. Normally we supply the basic kitchen implements for holiday use, and as stated in our welcome letter, we ask our guests if there is something else that they may need during their stay. We are very sorry that your daughter was ill and only wished that you had contacted us for help. We do have a 24h telephone service for out of reception hours which is written in the information book. Normally in all apartments we leave extra towels and rags for cleaning and dirty jobs, sponges, detergent and a dust pan and brush. We do apologise if these items were missing in your apartment. We are always available and happy to help our guests in any situation. We wish you all the best for 2019! kind regards

Away from the hustle and bustle, with fantastic views over the bay. The apartment was spacious and well furnished and equipped. Excellent bus service into Funchal

Good hotel with near city centre
Perfect hotel to visit Funchal with lovely view of the Ocean and city from our balcony. Very clean and lovely staff. Also very quiet at night. Excellent internet connection. I would have given a 5 to room comfort if the mattresses hadn't been so hard. All in all a very pleasant stay. Would be happy to recommend.

Nice hotel to use as a base to explore Madeira
The staff were very helpful and knowledgable about the island. The location is good for Funchall town ( although the walk back is very steep and tests the legs ) and for getting to the rest of the island . The room was a good size , although the kitchen area was a little cramped and the lack of an oven was a bit of a draw back . The pool was excellent and warm with plenty of space for sun beds

Very beautiful apartment complex. We had a ground floor apartment so no view of the town, apart from that a great place to stay. May need a bus (2 euro) or an 8 Euro taxi ride back up the hill after a long day though.

Comfy, spacious and with a great view!
Staying at Quinta Mae dos Homens was a joy - if a little challenging for the legs. This small apartment complex is very comfy (if just a tad worn round the edges), with spacious accommodation and a lovely pool and gardens - and the staff were a joy. However it is quite high up towards the back of Funchal - we didn't know what a steep lane looked like till we stayed here! But the views over the city and harbour were great, and going down into town was easy. So too was getting a taxi to take us back at the end of the night. All in all we had a great holiday here.

Lovely appartment with great staff
We spent a week at this appartment and loved our stay. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, even when we had to stay an extra two nights due to cross winds at Funchal airport. We will definintely stay here again if we return to Madiera.

Location not ideal for aging legs. Coped by extensive use of local buses which were very reliable , and taxis which were relatively cheap. These apartments in a different location, ie closer to town centre, would merit a higher rating,

A hidden jem
Spacious apartment with balcony overlooking the sea, we enjoyed the 'coming and goings' of boats in the port. The hotel is set in beautiful gardens,also there is a large pool, tastefully enhanced with comfortable seating and potted flowers. This was our first visit to Madeira, and we found the experienced staff extremely helpful, advising us on different tours, walks etc. The cleanliness of everything was A1. We will definitely return.

Lovely setting, within easy walk down to the old town then on the bus route ifyou don'tfancy a walk up the Hill. Great sea views and within easy reach of tourist attractions. Well resourced appartment and nice pool area. Owners very welcoming and helpful. Would recommend.

Eine sehr schöne Unterkunft mit toller Aussicht, unglaublich netten Betreibern und Personal und alles war sauber. Die Wohnungen sind etwas hellhörig. Wer lange schlafen möchte, wird eventuell nicht glücklich.

Een heel goed verblijf waar je veel vrijheid ervaart. Enige minpuntje is dat de ramen geen muggenramen hadden. Wij hadden veel last van de muggen.

Amazing view
Perfect location (on big hill), amazing view from balcony, big room, comfortable bad. Perfect parking place in the garden. Only small disadvantage – the room was bit cold, no heating, but it's normal in Portugal (I bought wool socks, and everything was ok :-).

It is true that most homes do not have central heating, but now some of the newly built homes do have heating systems installed! We usually only need heating for 2 or 3 months a year!..

Schönes Appartement mit herrlichem Meerblick
Idealer Ausgangspunkt für Touren zu allen Zielen der Insel. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Restaurants in Funchal sind fußläufig zu erreichen. Für den Rückweg von der Stadt zum Appartement empfiehlt sich aufgrund der Steigung Bus oder Taxi. Wir haben uns in der Anlage sehr wohl gefühlt.

Sejour a Funchal

schöne große Ferienwohnung in zentraler Lage
wir haben 15 Tage auf dieser wunderschönen Insel verbracht...Mit dem Mietwagen die gesamte Insel erkundet und traumhafte Plätze gefunden. Wundervolle Levada- und Bergwanderungen unternommen. Das Wetter war in der Zeit überwiegend schön und trocken. Allerdings sollte man sich morgens auf www.windy.com über die aktuelle Wetterlage informieren und dementsprechend seinen Tagestrip planen.

Appartement très bien situé ,dans un quartier très calme ,la vue sur la baie de Funchal est splendide . L appartement est propre et bien équipé, juste un petit bémol, il manque une petite base pour faire la cuisine ( poivre, huile ,sucre...) mais nous y avons remédié en nous rendant dans le petit supermarché , à 5 minutes à pied. Le personnel est accueillant .Le jardin est magnifique et très bien entretenu ,un vrai plaisir pour les yeux. Nous avons passé un très bon séjour .

Bueno en su categoría. Sin lujos innecesarios.
Tiene piscina y un buen aparcamiento (fundamental: la isla se disfruta más en coche). Todo funciona bien (excepto las luces del dormitorio) y es tranquilo y silencioso. Con vistas al este y al puerto. Defectos: situado en una de las muchas pendientes de Funchal, no aptas para paseos y con el super un poco lejos. Se tardan 10 min en bajar al centro; subir, ni lo intentes...

Quinta très agréable et fort bien située.
J'ai aimé cette expérience d'autant que mes parents avaient foulé ces terres 16 ans auparavant me donnant l'envie de m'y rendre. L'occasion aussi de fêter (cadeau d'anniversaire traditionnel de nos enfants) les 1 an de notre bébé. Une découverte nouvelle de tous les instants : couleurs, lumière, jardins délicieux. Des saveurs plurielles aussi : bolo do caco et autres fruits exotiques. La douceur enfin juste idéale d'un climat subtropical et les influences du Gulf stream.
