Sunsets to saviour

Lovely hotel in quiet location by the ocean
Not as close to Calheta as thought when I booked but it was only a 10 minute drive & worth it for the 2 small sandy beaches, bars, restaurants & shops. There is not very much in vicinity of hotel but there is bar & restaurant within easy walking distance if don't want to stay in hotel every evening. Room was clean & spacious. No tea/coffee making facilities but when asked for a kettle & cups they were happy to provide. Buffet breakfast was ample and varied with choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Swimming pool was large with pool bar for drinks & food. Indoor pool also if weather not so good. We enjoyed our stay in this quiet location.

Great spa facilities, room spec and location
Friendly staff, great deal with buffet breakfast included (though you won't get away with nabbing any lunch from this), good spa facilities with jacuzzi, steam room, indoor and outdoor pools, and one of the best beds we have encountered in hotels. The nearby Maktub can make the area very busy on Sundays but otherwise there's sufficient free parking. WiFi is in the lobby, but the hotel is getting upgraded with WiFi throughout floor-by-floor - if you need WiFi in your room, check which floor you are allocated to.

Very last minute winter sunshine break
Welcoming, helpful staff. Beautiful views from every room. Spotless rooms with kitchenettes. Breakfast was lovely every morning in the restaurant. Although I travelled alone I could see that the hotel is extremely child and family friendly.

Hidden gem
We chose this hotel as it was in the village of Paul do Mar where our local friends were getting married The location is perfect for a true experience of a coastal town in Madeira with amazing views walks swimming and snorkeling The hotel was perfectly located just above the sea wall so you can sleep and wake to the sound of waves The service in the hotel was fantastic and all facilities great Maybe a softer pillow would have been nice! We mostly swam in the sea but the pools were very week kept As a family we enjoyed the bars and restaurant nearby too Paul do mar is a hidden gem

Air conditioner did not work, mattress very hard. Telephone did not work. No amenities in the shower. It is on the end of Ribeira das Galinhas so you have to walk back and forth to the Port. There are no restaurants around or a small supermarket were to buy water or something to eat. No Internet in the rooms.

Great Hotel at a Stunning Location
This was our second stay at the Paul do Mar Aparthotel. The staff and very friendly and all spoke very good English. All rooms are oceanview and only 100 feet from the shore. From your balcony, you can watch the sun go down over the ocean every night. Breakfast was good with hot and cold food and fresh fruit every day. Dinner was excellent. We swam in the outdoor pool (unheated) and the indoor (heated pool). A rental car is recommended to get from the hotel to the many hiking routes and levada walks at the west end of Madeira which we consider to be the most beautiful part of the island.

Nice hotel with no passing traffic
Superb choice of hotel attentive staff, excellent breakfast but the most pleasing was the peace and quite. A wonderful spot to either relax by the pool or tour the island. A car is really a necessity. The hotel is an Apart hotel and the rooms are very spacious but the kitchen arrangement only allows you to do minimum cooking, which we found suitable there is a large fridge and a micro wave which is ideal for reheating prepared meals

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Great room and facilities. Breakfast (the only meal we had there) was excellent. Location was close the the sea. Slightly disappointed about the surrounding neighbourhood as it is obviously a place where teens gather. A bit noisy at night. (We were there during the run up to Easter) Would be a good place to go with children. Fantastic location to watch the sun setting at night, and great for finding the sun.

Fading glory huge waves
This hotel is far from central but nothing is very far away on this Island. You will need a car if you stay here as there only two buses a day and none on the weekend. The staff here are a real mixture, from Very friendly and helpful right down to moody and careless .Overall its hard not to like this hotel, if you want real 5 stars, you wont find them anywhere on the island. This one has them over the door but in truth its only 3 star quality, A direct view and sound of the sea for all, if you don't like constant surf pounding on the beach this is not the place for you. The equipment in the suites is very basic, but eating out somewhere nearby isn't a problem. "Chicken Gordon Blue" tells you about the chefs training. Not terrible but not brilliant either. Solid Marble in the bathroom, with badly applied shower tiles. The room was keep spotless by the cleaning staff . Very good for the price.

The hotel is maybe a bit dated, but right on the seafront with wonderful views of the crashing waves. Staff are very helpful, friendly and efficient. (Unfortunately the air-conditioning wasn't quite so efficient!). There are a couple of bars very close by, and the tiny port is worth walking to (about a mile away - with a couple more bars en route), if only to see the spectacular waterfall - which isn't even mentioned in the guide books! We really enjoyed our 2-night stay here, and would recommend it to anyone touring Madeira.

Wonderful place to relax and recharge ones batteries.Helpful staff, clean and friendly. Studio apartment spacious with great seaviews. Kitchen lacks kettle and some basic equipment. Breakfast menu needs better planning and presentation. Overall very enjoyable and I will return.

Great to get out of Funchal
Paul Do Mar was VERY quiet when we went in March. The hotel is set right by the sea and we have a beautiful sea view from our apartment. The hotel is in need of a refurbishment but for the price we paid it was good enough. The apartment wasn't as clean as i would have liked, but could be just the case that the place could have just done with a good refurbishment. Bathroom floor wasn't clean when we arrived and the sofa was badly stained. Only 2 English channels - CNN and a movie channel. The kitchenette facilities are basic but enough to sort simple dinners. You have 2 hobs rings, fridge, sink and a microwave. No kettle, oven or toaster. Great large balcony overlooking sea and pool. Paul Do Mar is made up of a couple of bars and 1 cafe. NO restaurants. There is a mini supermarket with the basics, bank and church. Sol E Mar cafe/bar was the friendliest and for 1 euro a beer it is a bargain. Also showed a lot of the football to keep my boyfriend happy. Tip: the hotel in set by the sea, enclosed by cliffs, which means only 2 roads to access Paul Do Mar. It rained over the first few nights there which meant that one of the roads had to close to the road being block from a landslip. It was a 40 detour on the other (more scary) road out of the village. Buy a good map when you arrive. We frequently experienced the roads being closed to them having to be clear of rocks/mud/trees that slips down the cliffs/mountains in bad weather.

Stayed in hotel with a 3 yr old. Place is too far from everything - a drive even to the 'local' shop. Geared up for walkers mainly. Staff helpful and friendly. Room was ok but mix up meant got a dble room with a 'put me up bed' for my daughter. Not ideal for privacy. Expected suite. Swimming pools excellent but not much else to occupy small child. Food was very average and quite expensive. Again, not much choice of local eateries.

Acolhedor. Atractivo. Excelente atendimento pessoal com a simpatia do pessoal acima de tudo. Recomendável para famílias com crianças. Piscinas interior e exterior excelentes. Higiene de muito bom nível. Organização impecável neste momento de pandemia devido à Covid, sendo assim um hotel seguro para uma agradável permanência.

Tolle Lage, Blick vom Balkon aus direkt aufs Meer. Frühstück sehr gut mit allem was man braucht. Leider ist das Hotel etwas in die Jahre gekommen, insbesondere im Bereich der Poolanlage. Die Sauberkeit auf den Zimmern war zu Beginn gut, während unseres einwöchigen Aufenthalts wurde die Bettwäsche gar nicht gewechselt und der Fußboden weder gesaugt noch gewischt.
