Missing jewelry
I went scuba diving with a shop at the marina. I took off my 4 karat wedding ring and put it in my makeup bag. We were supposed to be back before check out; however, the dive ran longer than expected. My husband packed my things to vacate the room, but forgot my makeup bag in the bathroom. I called the hotel as soon as I realized. Im really disappointed in the quality of service- the hotel treated the situation as if I had left some lipstick. They initially said they wouldn't be able to do anything until morning. A few hours later they called back and said they decided to go ahead and look that night. The ring is an heirloom and my son was going to propose to his girlfriend with it, but the hotel claims the makeup bag wasn't found. Really disappointed in how this was handled. I read other reviews in which guests have reported similar instances.

Even though already replied to the same review at tripadvisor and fortunately the Police Crime now definitely envolved (which we look forward to the end of this with insurances....) here are our comments: 1) It IS not at all true that any other guest complains about missing items from room 2) You had a free of charge safe in the room for your valuable items which of course if you do not use the hotel cannot be liable But most important: 1) You indeed called the hotel and at that late time of course would be normally difficult to our colleagues at reception confirm having or not found any left items a) Therefore, your call was not as you say immediately after you realised missing what so ever but at late evening 2) Because reception could not reply to you, you demanded to speak immediately to the General Manager which with great pleasure he did so and explained why reception was not able to give you the immediate answer. 3) Because our GM wanted to give you a soonest reply, all colleagues that were involved in the cleaning of your room as well as the executive housekeeper were called to find out if indeed anything was left 4) Your check-out time was due at 12h00 and yet with great pleasure it was granted late check-out 5) After your checked out, of course we had to prepare the room for the next arrival and as our colleagues started to do their work, your husband returned to the room and besides picking up indeed some left items, he checked the room for anything else. 6) Of course thus all was duly confirmed with our colleagues, nothing was indeed found Of course our GM made a point that all would be thoroughly confirmed and then instructed reception to inform you about it. Strangely, your reaction was as per our colleague quite normal as if indeed you had found your belongings. As further expressed, we do strongly suggest you present a complaint at the police for further detailed investigation (if there's any at our side......) We are sorry that you have made such a review that we do not accept your comments. Thank you for your visit which was a pleasure having had you with us.

Overall we loved our stay. The view from our room was just gorgeous and it was so peaceful. A very relaxing location but not for those who prefer things a little livelier. However a free shuttle service is provided to Funchal allowing plenty of opportunity to explore. Only two small gripes, the choice of food onsite could have been better, and our double bed was actually two beds pushed together. But these were not enough to spoil our stay. Little extra touches such as a thank you gift of fruit and chocolate on our last day were much appreciated. Helpful staff speaking an amazing range of languages. Right by the sea. Possibly not suitable for people with limited mobility due to steepness and quite a lot of steps. Would we stay here again and/or recommend it? Absolutely, loved it. And if we could have the same room again that would be fantastic!

A please to few days
We stayed here for our anniversary and had a lovely time. Beautiful resort lovely pool and nice beach area. Beach bar did some Nice cocktails with a cocktail of the day at a reduced price. Only downside, works happening on the natural pool which was very diaaapointing. But there was a nice area by the beach private for guests. Massive rooms with nice ceilings and bathrooms. Good facilities in the room tea and coffee and a kettle, nice balcony and we got a partial sea view rather than pool view like we laid which was a bonus. At breakfast there was only one person cooking eggs, omelettes etc whic meant a very long wait. Only 2 choices of bakery items at breakfast which run out very quickly. Although the food was tasty, more croissants / baked items would have been good. Check in was sufficient and we were offered a drink which was nice although we were a little bit confused about the location of the room. In the end someone offered to help us; which I think should be mandatory anyway due to the size of the resort. Beautiful views and overall a lovely few days. I would have liked to have stayed longer! Free parking and WiFi

Lovely stay
Lovely stay. We stayed in one of the sea view suite rooms and it was lovely. Gorgeous views, comfortable beds and spacious suite. Bathroom facilities were good - the shower was nice and powerful. Staff were wonderful - very friendly and helpful. Multiple parking options available and great restaurants. In particular, the food and service received in the Lorde restaurant was amazing. I thought it was good value. The only development point I think would be breakfast. Food is okay but they would benefit from more options and better morning coffee.

Great Place to Stay!
The hotel is very beautiful and provides a relaxing place to stay. There is a small but convenient market on the grounds as well as a few restaurants affiliated with the resort. Some people choose an all-inclusive option but I used breakfast only. The meal was the same every morning but provided a lot of options that I liked. The location is away from the city of Funchal but the city can be reached easily by the highway and the resort is very close to the airport. For this reason there will be noise at times from incoming planes, although the airport is not as busy as a major city airport. The customer service is very good. The people who work here are very friendly and willing to help you with anything that you need. One downside is that there are a lot of hills and stairs, but this is mostly unavoidable in Madeira. One other nice thing is that the resort is next to one of the beautiful walks in the island, the peninsula. If you want somewhere peaceful and relaxing to stay, I recommend Quinta Do Lorre.

Excellent resort hotel at the end of the island
We loved our stay at Quinta Do Lorde. The welcome at check in was warm, with a complimentary drink and a room upgrade, and the service was first class throughout. We were staying on a B&B basis and found plenty of variety in the breakfast buffet: we only dined in twice- a quick pizza in the Captain's Bar the night we arrived, and a superb formal dining experience at Lorde's Restaurant- beautifully presented upmarket versions of local specialities. The hotel very kindly upgraded us from a Sea View room to a Sea View Suite- our room was spacious, elegant, well appointed and spotlessly clean, although I found the bed a little hard. The property stands quite alone, almost on the end of the island so it's either car or bus for getting out and about (there's a bus stop by the front gate) The little village of Canical is about 5 minutes drive, 15 minutes to the airport and 25 to Funchal. Some other reviewers have mentioned airplanes being a noise distraction, but as Londoners, we found that 2-3 planes an hour were a welcome respite from the one every 80 seconds we are used to! The April weather wasn't very kind for our stay (windy enough that many flights were cancelled and cool enough to wish for a heated pool) and we got the impression that it was windier out on our promontory than it was down the coast in Funchal or Machico. The reward for this quiet location is spectacular sea views from almost anywhere in the resort, but more especially from viewpoints a short walk away.

Maybe 5 stars a few years ago but now barely 4.
We found the resort a bit pretentious and a little tired. Although it appears very up market the restaurant mainly caters for people on all inclusive budget tours and the a la carte menu had very little choice i.e. only 2 main dishes, one meat and one fish. This would be a difficult resort for anybody with mobility problems as the accommodation is spread over some very steep hills. It is also very isolated - too far to walk to the nearest town. However they do run a free mini bus service into Funchal every morning and back again each afternoon.

Brilliant holiday alround. Lovely hotel, room, food and atmosphere. Staff were excellent in all departments. Pity the complex is a bit of a way out, a car is needed to get about but there is a bus service to funchal (which was a great experience), also the hotel run a daily shuttle bus but with only limited seats could do with a larger bus.

Lovely hotel and would definitely recommend it
All the staff were very friendly and efficient. Spotlessly clean both in the room and anywhere visited in the main hotel. Breakfast was plentiful - we didn't try the restaurant in the evening. The furniture was too big for our balcony which meant you couldn't move the chairs. The room itself and the bathroom were very large. Very nice to have a separate shower BUT the hot water was unreliable. Fantastic wardrobe but still had those annoying hotel coat hangers which are meant to deter guests going home with them but are also user non-friendly!!

Exceptional Winter Value
The resort is ideally placed for visiting the east of the island of Madeira. It nestles on the leeward side of the windswept Pont do Sao Lorenco and takes the form of a small village, complete with church and its own marina. Everything is very Madeiran, yet modern, spacious and well appointed. You are never very far from one of the resort's three swimming pools, and a short walk from the marina, with its cafe, mini-mart and shops. Form several vantage points, like the church square, you can enjoy sweeping views of the ocean looking towards Machico. Food was also excellent, with generous buffet breakfast and a first class restuarant. Our room was outstanding, with high airy ceilings and a magnificent bathroom. Our only complaint would be the tiny supply of tea, coffee and milk in the room, which did not include any decaffeinated options - although no doubt these would have been supplied, on request.

The marina looking west.

Nice place at the beach
Nice place, fairly new, great bedding, nice amenities. Towels were a little thin for a four-star level hotel. This is a hotel within a resort community. Like a lot of resort communities, it is pretty sleepy, lots of absentee landlords. Only the bar in the hotel restaurant and another small bar were open during our stay. You had the hotel restaurant for food, or the little bar on the property. Not much going on. We were the only people at the larger of the two pools (three if you count the saltwater pool adjacent to the ocean). Most people congregated at that saltwater pool. Convenient to highways, but you will need a car of your own if you stay here and want to see the area.

Luxury living in a quiet location
Very nice quiet resort hotel located close to the best walk on the island, good varied breakfast, evening meals were a little pricey in the main restaurant, so I used the bar/restaurant at the Marina which was fine. The rooms were large, clean and well appointed. The staff were extremely helpful for all aspects of my stay. There are no external shops or restaurants within 2 miles of the hotel. There is a shop in the resort but as it was out of season they did not open at weekends. The island buses pass the main gate and are cheap and cheerful, timetable required ! - available at reception. All in all a really different very nice hotel, you will not be disappointed unless you prefer the noise and clamour !.

Lovely, quiet hotel with classy facilities
We had a lovely, quiet stay. The buildings and facilities are lovely. The hotel is out of the way so you need a car to get around as the hotel minibus only goes into Funchal once in the morning and again in the evening. The walk to Sao Lorenco point from the hotel is breathtaking but, unless you hike non-stop it will take around 2 hours to go all the way to the summit at the end. The dolphin watching trip from the marina is very handy and worth doing - you might get to see a whale.

This hotel is amazing....meticulously smart and clean. The resort itself is a beautiful luxurious complex and our suite was absolutely amazing.....spacious, very comfortable, perfectly kept and clean. Every room had a balcony and the roof terrace was a bonus. The views were just superb. Apparently the resort was full to capacity, but you did not notice. Hotel staff very friendly and attentive. The only downside is that you need a car to get around...too far away from Funchal. There is a courtesy bus to Funchal, but you need to book 24 hours in advance. Last bus returns to the resort at 6.30pm. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much...it was 'home from home'.

Lovely view, but terrible food and cleanliness
The resort nice, but remote. The hotel was nice in places, but tatty and shabby in others. the cleaning service was almost non-existent. We arrived back to the room as the cleaners started, they had left in under 10 mins! they wiped the dinner table with the dirty towels from the bathroom floor. The towels were ,marked and old, as were the bed sheets. At best this is a 3* hotel. The food was awful and very low quality. The breakfast was low grade with a cheap automatic drinks machine. Expedia advertised our room had an espresso machine, the hotel said they didn't exist. Stay nearer to Funchal and pay a bit more...

East Madeira in November
We spent a week in early November here, weather was great. Hotel suite was located on the Marina, brilliant location. The hotel was a good relaxing location for exploring the east of the island. When we were there there were very few other guests, which gave us the quiet relaxed week we wanted. However the the hotel is a 'resort' and we saw little in the way activities. A couple of swimming pools was about it. Boat trips etc were available from the Marina. Whilst our suite was a very good size there was no coffee or tea making facilities (tea and coffee were supplied but we had to heat water in a saucepan), the air conditioning was not working (and not fixed after repeated requests) and although being only 2 years old the room was beginning to look tired. If the hotel had been full the restaurants and other facilities would have been overcrowded. Overall a good experience for us, but probably due to the guest numbers.

great hotel, but hire a car .
The hotel was lovely but it is in a remote location. We were there in October when it was not very hot and the resort was not busy . In fact it often felt deserted which some people might find disconcerting - it meant we could use the free snooker table though. In hotter weather the cascade swimming pool would clearly be excellent and the breakfast was very good. However drinks in the resort were expensive and we were really glad we had looked at other reviews before we went and hired a car. We got one (via expedia) from Brava Cars. They seemed a bit of a small operation (rough and ready) but the car was fine, cheap and we weren't charged anything extra for two drivers.

Incredible experience!
An amazing find. For the same price in America, you would be staying at a Howard johnson's. Instead you feel the luxury at every corner. Beautifully situated. Take the 3 hour hike to Ponta Sao Laurenco, it may be the highlight of your trip to Madeira. The only thing that could be better is if they were more challenging with food choices. A bit too much tailored towards European/American palates. They should offer the choice of Madeiran cuisine. Fantastic experience here.

Lovely location but terrible service
We arrived for a weeks holiday to first impressions a beautiful place. Our rooms were meant to be interconnecting which I had been promised as had emailed hotel to check as had two children . The rooms were not interconnecting but was with another room so which I had to be asked to be locked. We asked for pool towels and they had none on our first day so asked us to use the bathroom towels which we did but then when we asked for more to shower with it took them three hours to bring them by which point we gave in and used the wet pool towels. The service at lunch was slow it took 1hour to bring our food out with only one other table being served . We asked to be moved to another room so we could have interconnecting rooms and the following day they moved us to a Villa which was nice having our own pool but was stuck in a cluster of unfinished villas. We decided to take the option as we had already packed up 2 rooms and just wanted to get on with our holiday. The first night in the villa no air conditioning and the Tv and telephone did not work so having children was not good. I again had to complain as to why put us in a villa unfinished without a kitchen and tv and telephone not working. The hotel did rectify the problem whithin a couple of hours but it all seemed to be an issue each time we complained there was excuses or we got attitude. I would say the hotel itself is lovely but is let down by service which is a shame. The manager and staff need customer service skills .
