Enjoy family-friendly pantomimes, adaptations of Shakespearean plays, live music performances and stand-up comedy shows at this Edwardian-style auditorium.

The Lyceum is one of Sheffield’s most important centers for the performing arts. It has a year-round lineup of wide-ranging events that attract all ages of theatergoers. Watch interpretations of books, comedies and dramas by world-famous authors and playwrights and see hit musicals and productions by local theatre companies. The Lyceum is part of the Sheffield Theatres, a complex of three venues dedicated to the arts and entertainment.

This 1,069-capacity venue opened in 1897 and was designed by the renowned theatre architect W.G.R. Sprague. It features an attractive façade decorated with artistic engravings, balustrades, capitals and pilasters. Spot the statue of the Roman god Mercury standing atop a cupola situated to the left of the main entrance. Inside, note how the theatre has the style of an Edwardian auditorium, built according to the design of a proscenium arch.

Book tickets to see hit Broadway and West End musicals such as Chicago and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Laugh and sing along to the stage adaption of books such as Roddy Doyle’s The Commitments. Sing along to classic Motown songs and chuckle at the jokes of recognised British comedians.

The theatre is also famous for its Christmas pantomimes, which are extravagant musical comedies based on familiar fairy tales and fables. These productions invite audience participation and are suitable for both adults and children. Versions of Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are examples of previous pantomimes.

Find the theatre on Tudor Square, in the eastern section of Sheffield’s city centre. It’s just a 10-minute walk from Sheffield Train Station. Opposite the Lyceum is the Crucible and the Crucible Studio, the other venues that make up the Sheffield Theatres complex.

Events at the Lyceum take place year-round and on most days of the week. Purchase tickets via the Sheffield Theatres’ official website or from the box office at the Crucible.
