Luxembourg’s independent accommodation ranges from budget two-star hotels to affordable family-friendly places to stay to deluxe five-star full-service hotels. Often family-run businesses, independent hotels offer guests a personable service and homely atmosphere and many welcome business travellers and can cater for large corporate conferences and social banquets.
Independent hotels are located across Luxembourg, close to some of the country’s main sights and attractions. Those in Luxembourg City are walking distance from the city’s museums, galleries and historic quarters, while those hotels in the rural regions place guests minutes from picturesque hikes and grand castles.
Nearly all independent hotels have onsite restaurants and bar areas, and many of the high-end establishments have exclusive facilities including spas and indoor pools. Guests will find free WiFi throughout all the hotels, and modern comforts in bedrooms include minibars, LCD TVs and rainfall showerheads.
Perfect for both leisure and business, Luxembourg City is not only a centre of commerce but also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within its historic quarter, Ville Haute, guests will find the 17th-century Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Bock Casemates, an underground network of tunnels. For those in town on business, the city’s banks and European Union institutes are within easy reach of one another in the compact city centre.
Unofficially known as the Little Switzerland of Luxembourg, the Mullerthal region’s hilly landscape makes it a particularly popular area with hikers and mountain bikers. There are also a number of historically important sites in the area, including a Gallo-Roman site at Echternach. South of Mullerthal, the Moselle region has a wealth of famous vineyards, and hiking trails around the region pass by notable wineries.
The Ardennes is Luxembourg’s best region for castles and Medieval fortresses. Surrounded by craggy hills and dense forests, Vianden Castle is in one of the country’s most picture-perfect settings. The castle at Esch-sur-Sure may not be as big, but has an equally impressive location, perched on a hill overlooking the whole town.
