"The view from this room was really pretty overlooking the lake. It is just up the hill from the train station and the town so easily walkable. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the host was very communicative. We were able to drop our luggage off at a sister property as we arrived earlier than the 2 o’clock check-in and didn’t want to tote everything up and down the hills. The balconies were an added bonus."

"Wife and I stayed for 3 nights. Clean, spacious, excellent location on the ground floor, close to convenience store and restaurants, good shower and amenities. Very close to the train station which is a must in the hilly area. Just a couple of things could be improved to make it a 5-Star place. 1st drawback was the bed, it was just ok. It’s a pull out bed with springs that you can feel on your back and especially if you sleep on your side, but there is plenty of space for a real bed so hopefully in the future they will put one there. The 2nd was the wifi, as it was a bit unreliable and went out sometimes. The router is not in the room so you have to contact them for help. Their responsiveness was good on WhatsApp until the last night when the wifi went about around 7:15pm and I never received a reply. Luckily it wasn’t for work but just Netflix. I wouldn’t recommend this property if you need reliable wifi for remote work. Finally, there is a very well equipped kitchen and good nonstick pan, but no basic cooking ingredients. If there is a kitchen, there should be oil, salt and pepper. Everything else was very good and we will considered staying here in the future."

The town and hotel were a beautiful experience. Highly recommend."

"My initial lower review was based on initial impression of the room and room only. The staff could not have been any better or more attentive. Some of the absolute best customer service I’ve ever experienced. Especially from Alice, Isabella, and Leonardo. I responded to email from Expedia about first impressions. The management staff at Casa du Lac reached out to me for feedback. I met with Guest Experience Manager Alice to explain. She was extremely receptive to my issues with the room and completely understanding. Everything in the room worked perfectly A/C, water temp, etc. The main issues were the proximity to reception area and elevator making it somewhat noisy at times, and the small size of the room with lack of storage and bathroom setup. Essentially I advised her that for the price and the online photos of the hotel our expectations were much higher and the room came up short. She had already investigated changing our room but there was no availability. She completely understood and forwarded my feedback to the General Manager. In response they offered some complimentary beverage and dining options. Their response was extremely generous and genuine. I sensed that they wanted us to thoroughly enjoy our stay as much as possible. We sincerely appreciate all that they did. If I were to rate the staff , it would be the highest possible. They are all top notch. Everyone was absolutely fantastic. I am giving my stay a rating of “Good” as a whole based on the room."

"We loved staying here and Paolo was a perfect host. The house was immaculate and beautiful inside. The view from the second floor lounge area was breathtaking and we sat there every night for the fabulous view. It is close to wonderful places to eat and shop as well as a short walk to the ferry area. We loved La Scarpetta and La Porta for places to eat both very good. We would love to be welcome back to stay here again highly recommend Casa Mara and Paolo!"

"THIS PLACE WAS UNBELIEVABLE!!! First and foremost the communication with the host was unbelievable!! Very responsive EVERYTIME!! From the moment we stepped off the train in Varenna we were met by the host and he escorted us to the apartments. He explained everything about the units and gave suggestion on what, when and where to do almost everything in Varenna and Bellagio. The view from each unit was perfect for morning coffee and at the end of a long day, a nightcap. Each unit was impeccably clean and had all of the amenities you would need for a stay. AC was needed and worked very well. The units are very close to the train station, a grocery store and a small restaurant for breakfast, cappuccino and a light lunch. Access to transportation was just at the bottom of the hill. No car is needed. I don't think you could find a better place for your money!!!"
