Good location and breakfast.

Pros: Breakfast
Cons: The beds, mold issue, better cleaning.
Location: The location was fine and easy to get to all of my activities.
There are a lot of reviews stating that the location of this hotel is questionable. It is not bad at all. There were a lot of people walking around and, I would not have been scared to walk around myself. The breakfast is good. There is an egg and waffle station, an assortment of fruit, cereal and drinks, and more. The balcony overlooking the courtyard was very cute. At night they had lights hanging over and reminded me of a cute little Italian place. The staff was fine and helpful when we asked questions. This is the good. Now the bad. The bed was the most uncomfortable thing I ever slept on. My whole body hurt so bad that it made me feel like I was going to throw up. I didn't mind that the tub is about 2.5-3 feet to climb into. I did mind that there was black mold in the shower corners and around the bathroom itself. The tub didn't look like it was cleaned for a good while. There was hair all over the place and especially the tub. I wore my flip flops every time I showered. The hotel needs some updating, but I don't really mind a hotel that has a bit of age. I understand, it is expensive. At first I didn't think the room was that bad, until I slept on the bed and was sore the whole next day. Then I started to notice all the other things like the mold, hair, and chunks out of the walls. If you don't mind any of these things, they by all means stay. If I were to stay in LA again, I would probably look elsewhere.

Too expensive parking and dishonest staff

They take $26.20 per day for parking. It was a shock for me as when we called Expedia while booking, they mentioned that parking is included. Telling the hotel staff this meant nothing to them. They asked me to authorize a charge of $22 per day. When asked about the discrepancy their response was that the price has recently increased. We were just too tired to argue after the long travel (we drove from San Francisco) so we gave in. But the management seems fishy and stingy when it comes to $$. We didn't interact with the hotel staff much after that. Hotel rooms were on the smaller side. It is not too near downtown but there are some coffee shops within walking distance.

Friendly staff & central locale

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly! Location was not too far from Griffith Park, Observatory, Hollywood Boulevard, etc. Continental breakfast was delicious too!

Pictures are great and all of that's there...but, it's what's not pictured. Room had dirty wash cloths hung on shower rod - I'm sure house keeping didn't notice. Mold in spots. Glass sliding door severely cracked - held together via clear tape. Huge crack in ceiling. Outlets so loose all plugs fell out. Had to put chair leaning on plug to keep phone charger in all night. Nice facelift and coat of paint - time for some upgrade guys.

Room was OK. Bed was comfortable and parking was excellent. But a couple of things were annoying. The outlets on the bedside lamp would not output power unless the lamp was on so charging your phone overnight with that outlet was impossible. Shower was very uncomfortable- very big step in and out of the tub, very low ceiling, and shower head was at face level. All of these negatives were minor gripes but there was very loud construction happening in the building that morning. The kind where you don't know where it's coming from but it sounds like it's in the other side of the wall to your room. It was loud and obnoxious and was happening before noon.

The hotel was close to everything we went to see!

We had a great stay! The hotel was close to Hollywood blvd, Sunset strip, and the Griffith Park and Observatory. The pool was beautiful and my kids enjoyed swimming there. Everything was very clean.

Pros: Chef Hugo
Chef Hugo was nice but one of his servers was very rude! I got a pastry and a banana for my husband who was not feeling well and stayed in the room. He literally told me off that I could not take anything from the breakfast buffet. However, he did not tell two other people off. They took a plate with them without being told not to. So, he just chooses who to tell off?? This server guy has a grim face. Cropped hair. No smile. No greeting. Do you really need to employ staff of this caliber?????
