Reasonably Nice Hotel
Location: Well located near Regent's Park, Great Portland St. station and Warren St. station.
Initial impression: The hotel looks nice from the outside and is not a post-war eye sore like some of the buildings in the area. Inside, the ceilings are a bit low, but the decor and lobby are attractive and in good condition.
Check in: As is typical with Melia, the staff always seems a bit disorganized and this check-in was no different. We had a reservation that took some time to find. The reservation was pre-paid, but the staff person tried to charge our card anyway (this was later corrected by another staff member). Check-in is usually slow and don't be surprised if you see long lines.
Room: A cozy room with a king-size bed. The room is attractive and fitting for a 4-star hotel. However, there are odd touches, like the anti-theft clothes hangers and the need to keep you key in the electrical switch slot by the door - these are more like a 2-star hotel. The shower had a leak such that water pooled on the bathroom floor with the shower turned on. Otherwise, everything was nice, comfortable, and in good working order. The mini-bar was well stocked which is not as common as it used to be. Bed was comfortable.
Room service: good quality food, though it arrived a bit cold (not unusual, but also not what you'd expect at a 4-star hotel). Staff was very friendly.
