My wife and I booked a night here for over £170 on a Wednesday in early October, hardly high season. We travel a lot and stayed in many luxury hotels, how this place calls itself a luxury boutique hotel beggars belief. Firstly they guaranteed the room would be ready for 3pm, itself an hour later than the standard check in the world over. Eventually we were allowed in the room at 4pm after having a cup of tea and a beer in the lounge that was filled with dog walkers and a lot of dirty, smelly, wet animals. To add insult to injury the hotel charged us for the drinks while we waited for our room to be ready! Eventually we were shown to our "park view" room that overlooked the roof of the dining room and other hotel buildings. The room was dusty and smelled musty, the furniture was old and worn with the huge leather bed head cracked and worn. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room but the only tea option was earl grey with vanilla. The shower screen was fastened to the bathroom wall with a rusty old piece of twisted metal wire. As the hotel is a 20 minute walk in to town we decided to have dinner at the hotel which was a disaster from start to finish. The food and service were appalling, from the soggy cheddar cheese crisp to the overcooked steak and the worse crème brulé I have ever eaten. We had to eat a £150 dinner on glass tables and plastic "wicker" chairs. In the morning the breakfast was awful and took over 30 minutes to arrive. A total waste of over £300.
