rare London gem
Recently renovated, the huge Amba Hotel is also very personal and user-friendly. The courteous and impeccable multi-lingual staff may need a little auditory adjustment, but the welcome seems real, and the rooms are squeaky clean and extremely well-appointed, right down to slippers, bathrobes and excellent lighting and charging stations. We never had to wait for an elevator. Our room even had a river view. Our room size was ample - a real rarity in central London - with two really large closets, and the hotel was a very easy walk from the National Gallery and the theatres and restaurants. We used to use the Apex Temple Court, but that area is a bit of a restaurant desert and they've hiked their prices at least as high as the Amba, so this will now be our default London haven. One small niggle was that the room seemed a bit chilly and my attempts at thermostat adjustment didn't seem to help.
