Disappointing all round
"We booked this cottage 27-30 Dec in the grounds of Great Trethew Manor Hotel partly because the hotel had a bar & restaurant. However, we were not informed that the hotel was closed until new years eve! A fact I feel sure Jane the host would have been aware of. Naughty! The cottage itself was tatty, ..."

"We were quite happy with this property and our hosts were warm and welcoming. It felt like home away from home. The apartment was neat and comfortable with local amenities nearby. We will definitely be going back again."

"I used Colliford as an overnight stop while on a bike trip to Land's End. For the price you'll be hard pushed to find anywhere in such a nice location. Yes, the hotel is dated in parts, however it has everything you'd expect to find. The room was clean and had good facilities and plenty of space. I got back latish in the evening however the lady who runs the Hotel (I didn't catch her name) was more than happy to rustle up some sausage egg and chips for me which hit the spot. I had a good nights sleep and breakfast hit the spot again. The staff were more than happy to help, friendly and even go out of their way for you.
Would I stay here again? Yes
Would I recommend it? Yes, I had read some of the previous comments and ummed and ahed about staying. However what I personally think people need to take into account is small independent places like this one are struggling to keep open after covid and the current economic state. Yes nothing is high end but it's not priced high end either, everybody's on a budget!! If we don't use places like this we'll lose them and the only choice we'll have is expensive chains with no character. They cant improve things if people aren't staying there. All I'd I say is give it try, it's in a very good location to base yourself out of to spend a few days exploring the local area. "

"we stayed in the Gamekeepers residence, was spotless on arrival with pretty much all the equipment we needed for a weeks stay. Couldnt buy too much chilled food at once as the fridge is a little small but loved our stay there. the bed/bedroom is really nicely done, perfect for a couple. Minimal contact with staff which suited us as thats what we like. Close access to shops and ameneties in the town very close by, and a good homebase to explore lots of different areas of Cornwall. Would come again definately."

The cottage itself was tatty, dirty & damp. Despite the welcome pack boasting that not only did they disinfect, they also cleaned first, then disinfected?! (How else would it be done, I ask myself..) The place certainly was not clean, with dust & finger prints on the glass tv cabinet, grease splatters on the hob, dirty finger stains on doors etc. Flaky paint & poorly painted walls. I found myself adjusting the header tapes on poorly hung curtains lol.
Overcrowded extension sockets were a fire risk.
I could on, but I think you get the picture.
For me the worst was the black mould down the bedroom walls. A very unhealthy environment to sleep in!
We considered sleeping on the futon in the lounge but one of the wooden sides was split, so probably not safe. I confess we did not complain at the time - how much would the host have been able to rectify in a couple of days?
As holiday rental owners ourselves we do understand it is not always possible to satisfy everybody's expectations.
However, if the host is intending to continue taking guests' hard earned money, she needs to up her game considerably, and not to just pay lip service to hygiene standards, by cheekily asking guests to bag up their own laundry!! "
