Nice stay
Good clean property, nice owners. One advantage is that the owners are on property so there is no issue with late arrival. Would stay again if in the area. The only suggestion I'd have is to give better instructions on driving to the property, google takes you to a slightly off location.

Very nice place super friendly owner. We used as a hotel " a place to sleep" . But would be a nice place just to enjoy the pool and barbecue, shared kitchen and relax

Beautiful site but way overpriced. Rooms were very damp and smelled like it. We found a 4 stars suite in Figuera da Foz a few days later for less money. At least the owner was willing to give us a discount.

We had a wonderful time at this property. The new owner made us feel very welcome. The added touches in the room were very appreciated, lovely fruit a complimentary bottle of fabulous wine and beer and drinks in the fridge. The cold buffet breakfast was delicious. On our last day we left our bags and went to the beach. They graciously kept our bags and when we returned they let us use the small communal kitchen for our picnic and the communal shower to rinse off all of the sand. It really let us extend our time in the region. Two nearby restaurants were also delicious and within walking distance.

I had made the reservation for a different date by mistake. Quinta honored my reservation despite the fact that the owners had shut it down for a few days. There was no one in the property and the told me how to get in. Incredible trust from their part.

Rustic Charm Perfected!
Our stay at Quinta do Scoto was absolutely perfect. I only wish I had booked more time there. The property was so charming- from our beautifully renovated (former barn) suite- to the fields with 2 gorgeous and friendly horses, we couldn’t ask for more. Our suite was so spacious and beautifully decorated. Our hosts- Penny and Tony - made us feel very welcome. The home was convenient to historic Sintra, yet in a non- tourist area- away from the crowds. We can’t wait to return!

One of the GREAT B & B's.....beautiful grounds and huge rooms.....lovingly restored from the original house and barns with antiques and great modern amenities! Fabulous bedding and wonderful breakfasts! The owners, Penny and Tony are delightful, charming and very, very helpful. It is well situated and close to all the "must-see's" of Sintra. Our highest recommendation!

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would!! Warm greeting (including a glass of wine while I filled out paperwork), tour of the property and my room... FANTASTIC room!! Tons of space, HUGE bathroom with a fabulous soaking tub. Very convenient to all tourist places, but with a quiet you can't get in any bigger town or city! I will definitely return here on my next trip to Portugal!

Quite old villa
The place is rather old and needs renovation in my opinion. The owners were very friendly and were generous with us leaving all what we needed in the fridge. Breakfast was good but no hot food options. Very quite location and relaxing. This hotel is closer to Sintra than to Lisbon. You need a car to get there. Not far from the train station where there is free parking and you can take the train from there to either Lisbon or Sintra.

Response from Regards Tony and Penny on 28 Jul 2018
Thank you for taking the time to post a review. Far from being an ‘old villa’, the Quinta is a Manor House which dates back to 1746 and has a history which is a big part of the Heritage of Portugal, with close association with the Marquis de Pombal and many of the Portuguese Aristocracy over the centuries. We spent 2 years and €600,000 fully restoring the Manor House and Celeiro, which is the same age, only in 2008 so are somewhat surprised by the comments, which have never been expressed by any other guests. As you mention, we have a village station, a 10 minute walk away, which serves Lisbon and Sintra and with fares less than €2; around 25% of our guests travel by public transport, saving considerably on car hire, so a car is not essential.

Great Hosts, Wonderful Property
Can’t say enough about Tony and Penny and the wonderful environment they have created in this unique B & B. The rooms were the largest we’ve ever had at a B & B and attention to the smallest details are obvious everywhere you turn. Due to local restrictions, they cannot serve a hot breakfast, but the continental breakfast was outstanding and we felt spoiled. If staying in the Sintra area, don’t hesitate to book this gem!

A most beautiful and confortable, clean spacious B &B....Tony and Penny are incredibly helpful. The suites (9) are spacious and decorated with antiques....the "mansion" dating back to the 1700ths, and reconstructed in 2006 sits in the outskirts of Sintra, about 6 kms ( E25.00 by taxi).....plenty of peace, satisfying breakfast

A true 5!
This hotel is situated in a small village close to both Lisbon and Sintra. It is a lovely semi rural setting, with a large yard, swimming pool, very good parking, and wonderful people operating the hotel. Tony and Penny do a great job of explaining the area, and go out of their way to assist people to enjoying their stay in Portugal. I could not recommend any facility more highly that Quinta do Scoto.

Excellent B&B nr Lisbon
Stayed here on our last evening of a walking holiday along the Sintra coast. As it was our first day of not walking we were looking forward to a relaxing stay. We were not disappointed. We had a very warm welcome from the owners who showed us their lovely renovated house with a glass of wine. Our roomwas in a seperate builidng and was huge. Two very compfortable double beds and a huge bathroom with large shower seperate bath and two basins. The room opened onto a terrace overlooking a lovely pool which is where we relaxed in the afternoon reading. as we were leaving early the next day they provided us with a hamper full of lovely things for breakfast. This is an excellent B&B for exploring this part of portugal and we would definately stay here again.

Amazinly restored old farm house close to Sintra
We stayed in Quinta do Scoto during our trip through Portugal. I wished we have stayed there a bit longer - it is conveniently located close to many sightseeing destinations in the center of Portugal. You can take radial trips from Quinta de Scoto easily. Note: it is not located in the heart of old town but more like industrial/suburban outskirt of Sintra. This requires some driving to the center of typically very busy town but eases the parking situation next to "homebase." The house is very nice and authentic - 16th century farm house meticulously respired by the British family. The owners are living on the property and personally taking care of everything.

Qunta do Quaint!
Quinta do Scoto is a 400 year old farmhouse lovingly restored by two British engineers, Penny and Tony. I can't recommend it more highly. They have done a remarkable job turning the old barn into charming suites (ours slept 6 with two double beds and a separate room with two twin beds), which they upgraded us. You are greeted with a complimentary bottle of wine, an honor bar, wonderful breakfast food, and several chickens! There is a new pool with nice chairs, and a short walk to the small town for local food and drink. It is about 10-15 minutes to Sintra by car, and at the most 20 minutes from the Lisbon airport. Penny couldn't have been more welcoming, and I could sense they give extra attention (such as arranging cabs or taking folks to the local train station) to all the guests. Top notch

there was a lot of trepidation in the car as we approached the hotel, which vanished once we had met Penny and she welcomed us in. What a fabulous place!Tony and Penny are the owners and are super- very friendly and helpful about local restaurants and customs.
Response from Tony and Penny on 28 Feb 2015
Thank you for the kind words about the Quinta and we are sorry if your first impressions of the village were disappointing for you. Melecas is a typical small village in the countryside 2km north of Rio do Mouro and has one of the most highly rated schools in the country, and excellent and inexpensive public transport from the village station where you can catch a train to Lisbon, Sintra, Obidos and many more places. Like most of Portugal, we have our share of graffiti around the railway line (something which has been prevalent since the Revolution) but if you see passed this and accept that this is how things are in Portugal, you find a very safe and friendly local community, with lots of excellent traditional and inexpensive restaurants and cafes within walking distance and lovely walks up into the hills surrounding the village. Our central location in the Lisbon peninsular with excellent road links means that we are less than 1/2 hour from most places of interest .

Beautiful Quinta but so so location
This is a beautifully restored comfortable property well run by it's owners. It's well located to access Sinatra or Lisbon by road or rail. We enjoyed our stay, the only downside was the area it's in. Whilst it may be the 'real' Portugal some seek we prefer to stroll to restaurants and bars in attractive surroundings which unfortunately you just can't do here. If you can look beyond that fact you'll enjoy your stay.

Relaxing, characterful and friendly
What do you want from a hotel? Comfort? Cleanliness? Friendly staff? This provides all of that. But it also provides much more - it provides a touch of authenticity. In a consumer driven society, where a yearning for the tourist dollar is uppermost in many minds, the Quinta de Scoto is a little different. Tony and Penny's restoration of the Quinta was obviously a labour of love. The Quinta was built at a time when my ancestors were most probably supporting Bonny Prince Charlie in his doomed attempt to seize the British throne. While my ancestors were spilling blood at Culloden, artisans were crafting a beautiful Manor House in Portugal, and, after many years of neglect before they bought it, and many years of hard work under their stewardship, Tony and Penny have reserected an authentic part of Portugal's history And the best bit is ..... they let you stay in it!

Relaxing B&B
We enjoyed our stay here very much. Penny was extremely helpful and our rooms were spacious and clean The pool was excellent as was the breakfast. There is a good restaurant nearby but the local village itself is nondescript. Lisbon and Sintra are nearby. We hired a car which made getting around easier but perhaps that isn't essential. Apart from the very noisy Canadians next door it was a great stay
