No one spends money when the service isn't great
First, I wanted to say that the hotel staff were terrific. They were friendly and personable.
My disappointments were with the staff at the hotel bar. I'm not a fancy person and I don't have to receive a hand over foot service, but it would've been nice if they can treat me a bit nicer. The lady just stared at me without as much as a greeting, pouring a drink and looking angry doing it.
Maybe a 'Hey!! I'll be right with you', or 'How's it going?!' would've been nice but nothing. She went on to serve other people who arrived after I did.
The guy who finally served me a beer didn't bother to tell me what he had on tap. He also didn't ask if I wanted to open a tab (or not), but just told me it was $5.75... ok, great... so here's your $5.75 and even I'll tip you a $1 so at least you can't say I didn't tip, but I left once my allotted one beer was up.
I've travelled a great deal for both business and personal reasons and have sat at many a hotel bars for a few drinks so I don't have to drive around a strange city (domestic or foreign) drunk. I'm not a heavy drinker, but just someone who enjoys mingling with the local crowd.
And if you have to ask... yes, I was a bartender a long time ago and so here's an advice from one bartender to another... smile... say 'Hi'... and be personable... because no one wants to spend money at a place where they don't feel welcomed.
