Beautifully situated grand old hotel with commanding views across the lake. Very friendly, helpful & polite staff. The rooms & communal areas have been tastefully updated with modern touches. Lovely to be able to relax on the terraces or on a sun lounger down by the lake & swim. The swimming pool is rather oddly situated & is probably not quite in keeping with the rest of the hotel. The tennis court has an amazing view but the surface needs some tlc & it costs Euros20 an hour to play. It was a little disappointing that neither access to the gym nor the health/wellness area were included in the overnight stay. Again one had to pay extra for those. It would be worthwhile Expedia making that clear.

Hotel splendid was good but we encountered a few minor issues. My request for non feathers was not met until a few days into the trip even though I’d sent an email request prior to my stay. The bed was one of the most uncomfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. Hard mattress and pillows like sacks. After a polite request they did change the pillows and covers. Another downfall was ants in my room. Not just one or two but quite a few. Not great, some crawling on my bed. Food was ok, not the best I’ve had and was never piping hot, always luke warm. Breakfast was ok but again I’ve had better. The hotel staff were lovely. The hotel as a whole looks very impressive, traditional and grand. The private beach and seating area outside are great. A few loose decking pieces around the pool which could be dangerous. My son stood on a few with his bare feet. There was also a leaks in the main lobby and a musty damp smell along the corridor to our room which was often busy with people on conferences in the rooms off the corridor. Spa was nice and relaxing although a water station is needed especially after a sauna!

This was a beautiful property right on Lake Maggiore in Baveno. It wasn’t right in the town center but it was a nice 15 minute walk. Convenient to take a water taxi and the front desk was very nice to call and book one for us. We did a water taxi to all three islands for four of us for 120 Euros. It was nice to have the taxi on call 15 min before we needed it to head to the next island. And getting picked up and dropped off right at the dock of the hotel was so nice.

Perfect stay
Smart hotel with lots of different areas to relax - by the pool, on the beach, by the bar. Location suited us perfectly, with just a short walk (12 minutes) to the boat station.

Wonderful atmosphere of elegance, tranquillity and sophistication. Staff were very friendly and helpful. My only suggestion is that the rooms should have coffee/tea making amenities as this is a very basic requirement which should definitely be in the rooms of a high end 4 star hotel!

A Tresure on Lake Maggiore
We stayed at the Hotel Splendid after a conference just down the road at the Splendid's sister hotel, the Dino Hotel. We wanted 4 days total relaxation and were not disappointed. We had a lakeside view in a beautifully decorated room with all the amenities we wanted. Breakfast on the Terrazza was perfect and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. Whether relaxing by the pool on the sun terrace, lazing on the "private beach" or having a quiet drink in the bar area everything about this place was perfect. We hired a car and parked in the underground car park and travelled to Lake Orta, Stresa and a few other places expertly pointed out by the hotel staff. I would advise anybody going to Lake Maggiore to take a look at this hotel as the whole experience was sublime.

Best Service, Best View, Best Relaxation
I stayed at Hotel Splendid for several days at the end of August. Everything about the place and my stay was truly splendid. Gorgeous lakefront location, luxurious guest room and public areas without being over-the-top opulent, immaculate indoors and out, exceptionally friendly, kind, attentive, efficient, and professional service by all staff at all times, and beautiful weather conspired to give me what I was looking for: a place to rest and recover from a frenetic summer. My entire stay at this facility was gratifying and I look forward to going back, partly because of the location and facilities, but mostly because of the outstanding service. The quality/price ratio was unbeatable: all prices for the room, food, beverages, and supplementary services were very competitive and absolutely fair, at general market rates. Excellent place for solo travelers like myself, or couples (honeymoon or second honeymoon or romantic tryst), or families, or groups, or businessmen. All guests are very well-behaved, in keeping with decorum of hotel. Taking breakfast and dining on outdoor terrace unforgetable...food quality good with big menu selection and very discreet, smooth service. This is a bona-fide 5-star hotel masquerading as a 4-star establishment.

This was the first time we visited Baveno and the hotel Splendid if was first class. The staff were so friendly and extremely helpful. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. The facilities were fantastic, with one exception - the games room was reported to be disappointing by my children. The food was excellent and the view out of this world. I'd go back in a flash

Walking into a beautiful reception area we are met by warm and friendly staff who could not be more helpful. Our room was luxurious , the evening meal had a high quality menu with again staff that could not be more helpful. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough

The Hotel Splendid.......Is Splendid !
Great hotel, fantastic staff. Fully refurbished five years ago, the hotel Splendid is exactly that, Splendid. The lake facing side of the hotel offers a spectacular view of Maggiore and an artificial beach allows you to sunbathe "over" the lake and provides easy access to the water for swimming. Food was good as was the hotel bar. If there is a downside it is the fact that the hotel is situated on a road which can get quite busy and if you want to walk to the right of the hotel the pavement runs out in approx. 300 metres. Baveno town centre is a short walk to the left of the hotel which can be accessed from the hotel property through a park thereby avoiding any contact with the main road which is a real bonus. Overall we would give the hotel a big tick in the box we met several people who feel the same way.

Better than "splendid"
This was perhaps the most beautiful hotel room we have visited. We paid 140 euros (early May 2015) for a mountain view room but were given a lake view room that was huge, with two sets of doors to our balcony with a splendid view. It had a spacious and luxurious bathroom. The fitness center was larger than that of most hotels and we had a good workout. The hotel also has a sauna and steam room which we unfortunately did not have time to use. The staff, particularly Frederica, went above and beyond in helping us locate a ferry that would accommodate our car and get us to the airport on time. The hotel was walking distance to the small town of Baveno and a 5 minute drive to Stresa, which is a beautiful resort town. We had a drink at their outside cafe overlooking their pool and sandy beach. At night, I had some difficulty logging into their wifi, so a staff member came to my room in minutes of my phone call and rectified the problem. If you are going to Lake Maggiore, I would definitely stay at the Hotel Splendid.

Superb stay in Baveno
Hotel Splendid needed repairs and we were transferred to another hotel, Grand Hotel Dino, owned and operated by the same family. They offered the same arrangements and everything was great!
