A Memorable Visit

Posted 16-Jun-2017 on Hotels
We loved our stay at Linthwaite House. It was the highlight of our trip to the UK. The hotel was charming and beautiful. The setting was lovely and the view breathtaking. We especially enjoyed our gourmet meals which were delicious and beautifully presented. Our only regret was that we stayed only one night.

A charming hotel with all the amenities

Great location, away from the center of Bowness. The village is easily accessible by foot. Delicious food offered by the gastro restaurant. Splendid service and a superb set of amenities. On the negative side, bed mattress was a bit hard. Room was a bit small.

Perfect in every way

Pros: Everything
Cons: Very little
Location: Mountain Goat 10 Lakes Spectacular Tour
A very special place with old world comforts, impeccable service and the type of pampering I've never enjoyed at hotels three times the price. This old manor house sits high over Lake Windermere with gorgeous views, beautiful gardens and warm inviting public spaces. Our room was very large and extremely comfortable. The bath room was remodeled to the latest style. If I wanted to pick at something, it would be the too small and tight shower (although with great shower head, adjustable height, good water flow and a hand held option that every hotel should have. Our room was a bit too hot at night as all the rooms are heated at night together with no individual thermostats. There was a fan in the room and we were able to open the windows and cool the room down. The food is another story (and a better one!). It is simply outstanding across the board. The chef, his kitchen staff and the servers are very talented and professional. The breakfast pastries, fruits, cereals and fresh squeezed juices were all terrific. The full English breakfast was the best I've enjoyed anywhere. Our dinners were top shelf. We even had a light snack for dinner after a tiring day and the salads, chips and deserts were as good as the food in the formal dining room! We had an amazing stay and strongly recommend the Linthwaite to anyone visiting the Lake District

Amazing place to stay!

The only reason I am not rating this place as Excellent is that no higher rating available! Stunningly beautiful place in an amazing area! Only 15 minutes to the closest town with unexpected international dining options .... Or only 3.50 gbp taxi fare. Amazing Staff attended to every possible need plus a few more weeks never thought of. This hotel should be boitcamp for all hotels!

Mixed bag for a fairly pricey stay

Posted 04-Apr-2017 on Hotels
Great welcome upon check-in. Shown to our room. Lovely room, cosy, very clean. Good tea/ coffee making facilities. Good selection of drinks/ biscuits. Water provided. We chose not to eat in the restaurant the first night due to only availability being 9pm. We didn't have dinner there at all as wasn't taken with the menu options. We ate in the Terrace, (mostly alone as most people went into the restaurant) and food was excellent, if fairly expensive. Room: far too hot and duvet far too heavy for the temperature so hardly slept first two nights due to this. Even turning off the radiator didn't entirely help. Opening the window was a necessity but not ideal as staff door just below so once you did drift off you soon awoke to noise of that door opening/closing and staff farewells at around 23:30-00:30. After a second terrible night's sleep we asked for a blanket/ sheet in place of the duvet. This seemed to do the trick. Every time we or anyone nearby used the tap/ shower in the room the plumbing screamed. We could also hear every noise from neighbouring bathrooms. Breakfast: with the restaurant's four-course offering, and the previous night's meal, we expected a great breakfast. Porridge watery and horribly bland. Poached eggs rubbery and like chewing gum. Somewhat mixed experience of staff but overall staff mostly accommodating and polite. Poor check-out; passed bill, paid bill. No 'How was your stay' and no thanks/ goodbye so didn't addressed issues with our stay.

Relaxing weekend with good food and staff

Posted 27-Feb-2017 on Hotels
Staff were very helpful and friendly and food was excellent. Open fires were disappointing as there was only one proper log fire in the reception area and fake fires in the the lounges. However we had a lovely, relaxing weekend at Linthwaite House.
