If you like an old-fashioned, authentic environment you will like this hotel. It is fascinating. However, if you want modern conveniences don't book this place. I have been twice and I will go again but I may not be your typical guest. One drawback is that the dining room is only open for breakfast. Lunch and dinner can be obtained (and very high quality) within a couple of minutes walk. Staff very friendly.
Beautiful entry way, rooms basically clean, chipped paint on walls and furniture, vinyl flooring chipped, exposed wiring with fixtures, runs out of hot water, TV reception fuzzy, felt safe ( somebody is always at reception, staff very friendly and helpful, location is the best, kitchen and refrigerator dirty, pool very clean, need lounge chairs, breakfast descent.
"Very private exclusive, definitely for relaxation."
Too short as we were very limited on time, only spent around 16 hours on premises. Spa is definitely worth returning for. Breakfast included was delicious. Staff could be a little friendlier, although the concierge (Jose?) was quite nice, but the restaurant staff seemed somewhat indifferent. Spa staff very nice.
If you are looking for an interesting experience, this place is nice. Especially if you pay for spa access. The grounds are pretty, but don't expect superb quality in the building since it is older. The drain areas smell a bit. My room had a few small cockroaches. I did love the pools. We went on a weekday so there were not many people there, which is fine by me. I hear the place gets packed and there certainly is room for that. We had wonderful weather so we spent a good time in the thermal pools and I did a spa day. It is about 15 minutes away from Chapala which is a nice drive, and it is a pleasant living from what I see. Picturesque and I was there the evening of Oct 18 through early morning Oct 21. There is one particular food stand within the premises that sells really good tacos and shrimp tacos with all the fixings and fresh salsa. There are other restaurants but that one is very good. Apparently it is slow on Mondays, one of the thermal pools closes for maintenance that day as do a few of the eateries. The staff are welcoming and the grounds are fairly quiet after 7pm when they close to the general public. I liked it...it was relaxing and we had great views of the areas on the other side of the lake.
This well kept hotel is located steps from the malecon of Chapala. The malecon is wonderful for long strolls along the sometimes busy waterfront of Lake Chapala where you can watch the local fishermen and get within a few feet of the beautiful Snowy Egrets on the pier. The breakfast on the veranda at the front of the hotel surrounded by the lush garden is delightful. The comfortable rooms all have a unique musical theme to the decor.
