Six night stay in La Jolla. Hotel is in a good location for walking around La Jolla, and the seaside. Self parking available a block away. We were in a "Vintage King" room. The entrance door needed some work (sticky, difficult to line up deadbolt). Carpet was due for a change. AC very noisy. At check-in they asked what type of paper we would like but only dropped one off 1 day out of 6. We happened to be staying there when the pool and hot tub were closed for maintenance which we didn't know when we made the reservation. The La Valencia is a bit of a historic landmark in La Jolla, and we've stayed there a few times over the years but I'll probably give somewhere else a try next trip.
We wanted a hotel close to UCSD to visit our daughter and the Estancia worked perfectly. The hotel is very nice with lovely grounds. From the moment you enter the driveway off of the very busy Torrey Pines Road, you immediately feel the tranquility of the hotel. We enjoyed drinks and appetizers at the Mustangs cafe which also had a lovely patio with a fireplace. Most important was the close proximity to UCSD.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Empress. We were pleasantly surprised how big the was and how nicely appointed it was. The location is fantastic and you can walk all around La Jolla. There are great restaurants, shops and fitness centers within 2 blocks along with a great supermarket and CVS. I would highly recommend this hotel
The hotel was great. The rooms were a little outdated and didn't have a microwave. However, the pool and hot tub were wonderful. The best part of this hotel was that it was right on the beach and next to a park. We took many walks on the beach and spent a great deal of time on the balcony listening to the waves. Staff was accommodating and resolved any issues we had.
I've stayed here for years, and it is consistently clean and quiet with excellent service. No worries about a noisy partying neighbor! The central courtyard pool and spa is tropical and quiet, relaxing.
Spanish for “The Jewel,” La Jolla is 13 miles north of downtown San Diego. One of the country’s most affluent communities, La Jolla is known for its fine homes, wonderful beaches, wonderful restaurants, and stunning natural scenery. It is home to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Stephen Birch Aquarium and Museum.
