Holidays to Kop van Noord-Holland
The region consists of West-Friesland and the municipalities Den Helder, Schagen, Hollands Kroon and Texel. It’s called ‘Head of North Holland’ because of its geographical situation; it sits at the very top of the province of North Holland.
Whether you like long walks or bicycle tours or roaming around unfamiliar places visiting exciting museums – everything is possible in Kop van Noord-Holland, including a walk on the beach.
Den Helder is a good base to start your discovery tour. It’s a famous naval base and a trip to the Dutch Navy Museum is a real must. Plan some time to discover the beautiful nature around Den Helder. You can go on great walks and relax at Grafelijkheidsduinen and enjoy a fantastic view from the higher walking trail. If you stop in Den Helder, consider taking the ferry to Texel and spending a day or two on this beautiful Wadden Sea island. A drive over the Afsluitdijk, a dyke that doubles as a causeway between North Holland and Friesland, is an absolute must. In April 2016, an information centre opened in Kornwerderzand where you can learn all about the history of the dike. There's a lot more to see and do depending on the amount of time you have, such as the charming towns of Enkhuizen, Schagen and Anna Paulowna. On a beautiful summer's day you can relax at Callantsoog beach.
Kop van Noord-Holland is easy to reach by car and public transport. You can take the train to Den Helder and get to the smaller towns by bus. If you’d like to explore the area at your leisure, you can rent a car through Expedia or travel around in your own car.
