The only obvious advantage was a good beach with a lot of corals. We were completely disappointed with Charm Churee Village. When we arrived to the hotel, the staff were really unfriendly, also the numbers that we booked were terrible, so we had to pay fir an upgrade, and the manager didint even give us a proper receipt. Everything in the hotel is very old, rusty. The floor is squeaky, the celling had a lot of holes in it, so that during the rain we had our rooms wet. Bed sheets were covered in spots, and th pillows were extremely tough. Also, the territory is vey difficult to move across, there are a lot of hills, not sporty people will definitely experience problems going uphill to the reception. Also, breakfasts were literally the worst we’ve seen. Terrible tasting food, and very poor choice.

Our paradise!!
We stayed at charm churee 7 times. We have relaxing days there every time. We recommend you to have sweet crab spaghetti at their restaurant. It’s absolutely our favorite. We miss their private beach already which has beautiful fish and corals. Staff are friendly, Wi-Fi is great, view from breakfast restaurant is anaizingly wonderful. We booked charm churee for our next visit already. See you very soon!!

If you like unpretentious charm then it is for you
Charm Churee is rustic like it says - it is 3 star but if you choose well where you stay it is more like 5 star. The food varies but is generally fine if repetitive. Staff are mainly from Myanmar and like Thais are not stressed so do not expect them to fawn over you and chase tings up - it is Thailand and an island so it is 'Thailand Island Time' and any Northern European expecting action on the second and exact attentiveness is going to be disappointed - if not fuming.

Amazing!
Amazing! What a lovely place! We had a cracking sea view from our place. The room we got was beautiful. Although you could get bugs in the outside bit, the main bedroom was sealed and very nice. The service is brilliant. The staff go out of their way to help you. There is a really nice beach in the resort with a bar right next to it, which you can get good food and enjoy buy one get one free cocktails. The restaurant isn't particularly lively but the food is good. The breakfast buffet is great (you can get some nice bacon and occasionally some hash browns). The location is excellent – just far enough away from the hubbub of the town but not too far. We were there for new year's eve and they put on an amazing night for us all. All you can eat buffet (including crab, prawns, and a myriad of other delectable foods), all you can drink cocktails, a cabaret show and games with prizes (I won bottle of rum!) I would totally recommend this place.

Very rustic and beautiful resort! Nothing bad to say about it. Involves lots of walking to and from beach/restaurant/room but thats what makes this place so unique! The staff are so friendly and helpful, beach is gorgeous the main part of town is just a short 10 minute walk away.

We had a great time. We stayed in room 32, and it was very nice. The staff was always helpful and friendly. The only thing not amazing was the lack of tv. But we were so busy having fun we did not miss it.

Unique bungalow and location...
Unique experience, great bungalow, good for 5 days.. No hot water, reception sent someone to fix and had hot water for 5 minutes and cold showers every day.. Liked the lovely Burmese staff and the snorkelling beach is the highlight... But you do get tired of the climb back up to the bungalow after a few days.. Otherwise great for a short break...

Needs to updated - majorly.
Checked out early. Like going back in time and staying at somewhere such as st fagans in wales where you see 1950s rooms untouched. Could be a great hotel if it was knocked down and built again, in addition to being fumigated due to the absurd amount of giant centipedes that were everywhere. I'm not even trying to joke around, I hope the hotel sees this and does something about it. 'Rustic' to a whole new level.

Not worth a cent we paid for the accommodation! Overpriced and awful! From snakes on arrival, the most uncomfortable beds, no hot water, power cuts, awful breakfast, worst dining experience and just plain filthy! Taking my shoes off for your filthy floors was undeniably painful!

Really enjoyed our stay
Nice hotel, good breakfast ( great view as well) and friendly staff. We had a superior room in the hills and we stayed two more nights than what we had planned ( had to book hotel.com again because their prices are ridiculous). As other have said it requires to walk quite a lot but we didnt find it as strenuous as some have said. The beach is nice to swim and for snorkeling ( lots of fish) and it is easy to walk to other resorts and see and enjoy their beaches. It is a liitle out of the way to get in town but feasible by foot ( turn right at the end of the road and not left like the cars do because it is a one way...we made a long detour for nothing). All and all we enjoyed our stay at Charm churee and even if it wasnt perfect ( but what is) the staff do try very hard. I appreciated the free transfer from and to the pier...definitely a plus on a island were taxi are kings and set prices based upon their desire. We had fun in Koh tao and loved to learn to dive ( school refereref by hotel : Panther divers, new but really nice people)

Great beach bungalow
We had a great stay there. Our first time in Koh Tao. Very handy location. Great free snorkling at the beach and wonderful complimentary breakfast. The mosquitos were a bit of an issue and we struggled with getting the mosquito net working properly over the bed. Also a small ant problem but no big deal. The in house safe didn't work but we felt very secure with our stuff regardless. Comfortable bed, privacy, palm trees ad ocean. Excellent place and one of the cheaper options available within the resort. Exceeded expectations. Very happy.

Good for snorkeling! Had a wonderful vacation!
You can enjoy swimming with tropical fish at the private beach. You can also enjoy watching corals there. I saw a shark when I visited this beach last year but I couldn't see it this time though I saw a stingray instead. The front desk can arrange a boat taxi to get to Nanyuan. Taxi will pick you up at the hotel to ride the taxi boat. It was very nice. I would like to mention only one thing that the bed in Eco room was tiny for 2 people. We had a wonderful vacation at Charm Churee. I will come back very soon again.

Great beach bungalow
Great beach bungalow with direct access to sea and some amazing snorkelling. Lovely rustic accommodation but had to negotiate a lot of steps to access room as bungalows built on a hill. However, views more than compensate for walking so many flight of steps. Staff are friendly and helpful. The two restaurants had great views of the sea and served a combination of Thai and international cuisines. Food was good but a tad pricey compared with outside the resort.

Expensive but worth it.
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights at the sunset cottage overlooking Jansom Bay. This place was absolutely gorgeous and the beach/restaurant was very romantic. This place is great for couples looking to relax away from the crowds. Although this place was very expensive, the service was excellent and the views are to die for. There is also a hiking path that extends beyond the property which leads to other hidden beaches and villages. The hotel is located on the hillside so walking around the property can be tiring.

We LOVED IT!!!!
WE LOVED IT!!! We had a 6 night stay in this quaint, charming resort. Our bungalow was isolated and private, with huge king sized bed with canopy, large bathroom, porch and private deck. We were only 2 min to the private beach from which we could snorkel, swim, sunbathe. There is also another small beach about 800 meters from our resort. The units have an authentic Thai feel with thatched roofs and furnishings. The walkways reminded us of being in a "Gaudy designed 'smurf' village". We absolutely loved it! The only thing people should be aware of, is that it is situated on very steep hills, so there are stairs and ramps to everything--not for the faint of heart. However, the contours added to the ambiance. It is also a short walk to town, but you really never need to leave there!

This is by far one of my favorite places to stay!
I have been here on several occasions and I always have the same fantastic experience, the owner and staff remember me and always treat me like family. The rooms are very unique and give you that warm cozy homey feeling. The food was excellent and fairly priced. The private beach is breathtaking. You can even rent a canoe to go around this resort. I can go on and on and on but this is one place you need to experience for yourself. You will love it, that I am sure of!

Tropical paradise
We had an amazing stay here, food is great, staff are more than helpful & polite, the owner & his son are also extremely friendly & its refreshing to see an owner who truly cares about nature as well as profit, he has tried very hard to respect & work around the trees & wildlife, where they can incorporate a tree into a property they have, so dont be surprised to find a tree going through the roof of your bathroom beach cottage, we absolutely loved this aspect of the hotel, we truly felt part of nature, he also is a big animal lover so you will see his 3 gentle dogs hanging around reception. The private beach Jensom bay is spectacular, very clean with crystal clear water & the most beautiful fish swimming near by. We stayed in a luxury beach cottage & it was beautiful! We would definitely go back there, definitely more then a 3star hotel!

JUST DONT!
Where to start? Its lucky that koh tao so beautiful cause this hotel can totaly mess up your vacation. Service is great and breakfast OK with good location. But other then that, feels like in the jungle - but in a bad way. Too many steps and very up on the hill - and we are young. Rooms are weird, not cool as we thougt they might be. So many bugs and worms outside on the hotel roads. Far from the resturants and bars area. We were sad to go back to our room every day, Please trust me - just dont!

Second holiday at Charm Churree
This holiday was just what we needed. Relaxing small resort. We enjoyed breakfast each day watching the fish in the sea below whilst we had our meal. Staff at Jansom Bay were very helpful and fitted us with masks and snorkels at no charge for hotel guests. The quantity and variety of fish we saw was amazing. Easy walk along the coast through other small resorts to the town. Lots of cafes and restaurants. Charm Churrees own restaurant, Starlight, was also very good. We hope to return before too long.

Not worth the money
My wife and I stayed at Charm Churee over Xmas 2013, first we were wanred it was hilly and yes it is very hilly, if you are not fit and active dont go. Our room had a separate mens urinal and it constantly leaked throughout the 5 days. Luckily we were out most of the time but one time after 3 days we reported the smell and flies coming from the urinal staff supposedly fixed it but then closed up the room. On our return the smell knocked you over when you opened the door it was dreadful. It was never fixed and we left a day early and got no refund or offered any. Also we found out after 4 of 5 days there the phone in our room had not worked for 8 weeks. The bar near our room was never opened becuase there were never any patrons. The breakfast was ok with great sea views but because it was windy and the bay marie for hot food had no covers the "hot" food was generally cold. Most days we had to ask staff for a bowl for cereal and for a cup of tea. Most times the staff stood in groups chatting and only did something after we asked. The English speaking dive manager was a great help and our stay would have been worse if not for him trying to help. I also emailed the hotels manager in Bangkok and didnt even get a reply. Sadly would never recommend this place to anyone.

Nice huts, but hard to access.
We had fun, & in most ways it is a great resort. However- it's extremely hilly & steep. I'm 35 & very fit; but after walking up the steep stairways & hills to my room, I was always puffing like a locomotive. It is a great resort - it's just not suited to anyone who is frail, unfit, fat, or old.

Losing it's charm!
Great snorkelling bay at the hotel, and friendly beach staff. However the rest of the team lacked direction or any enthusiasm. Breakfast was a self service cafeteria style - get your own cutlery and coffee if you want them. When there was a spillage staff walked away and let guests sort it out. Reception was chaotic and took 2 hours to look at a problem with the safe, and also disorganised with a day trip we organised. It's a shame because the setting could allow it to be a great hotel, but looks like the owners have lost interest and it's a matter of time before the place becomes shabby.

The hotel is very nice, it's located on the side of a hill with access to a little beach, there are lots of water activities - I guess the only criticism would be that there isn't much to do at night. The bar closes at 6pm?? And the restaurant closes at 10 (and the only time we looked there were about 5 people in it), we walked to town (10 minutes), which was also rather quite. We stayed in a superior cabin (I think) - really very nice, one big air conditioned bedroom, with a second screened off section, a third screed off section for a shower/toiled and a table/chairs/sun lounger/hammock outside.

Nice but not what expected
Stayed in July 2013. A nice hotel, not very traditional as the rooms are spread all over the hillside which is fine if you don't mind some steps and steep walking. The noise from the longtail boats echoes straight off the water and up the hill which can be annoying late at night. Our room didn't have a tv, I'm guessing most don't but we bought books from one of the book exchanges in town to keep us entertained. Jansom Bay is beautiful, great snorkelling but definitely not the best of the snorkelling spots. You can borrow gear from the dive shop for free. I'd recommend going on a snorkelling tour around the island, some great scenery and fantastic beaches to stop and snorkel at. The food at the Elvis Bar could be better, as could the service. Staff just seemed to be hanging around talking when people were waiting to give their orders and the food comes at different times instead of all together if you have more than one meal. The Starlight Restaurant is wonderful, great food and relaxed setting. Spectacular at sunset and moonlit nights. Overall a nice hotel but very amongst nature and the layout seems unorganised. The walk to and from town might need a few more lights and signs, it can be hard to remember the way at night and you pass through another resort to get there. I would probably not stay again, seemed overpriced for what we were getting.

Charming, relaxing and rather divine
We totally enjoyed our stay at this truly 'charming' resort. We used all the resorts facilities including use of snorkelling equipment in the private bay, dive instruction, massage treatments, transfers, lunch and dinner restaurants...fabulous. Our room was private with a gorgeous view and so very beautiful. We were looked after in every way we required. The included breakfast was diverse and sumptuous and the breakfast room overhanging the sea divine. We will return!

Sorry just my cup of tea, if you have any physical problems don't go here, you will be required to walk up and down steep stone paths, & I mean steep just to your room and around the resort. We were in room 31, you toilet is an outhouse, as is your wardrobe and safe. So night time ventures will be required just use the toilet. We paid just over £100 for one night Should be priced at around £40 p/n. Why do hotels claim to be rustic, & then use that as an excuse to not upkeep the standards any customer would expect.

Staff were excellent, food and facilities were great. We went for a standard room which wasn't as nice as some of the others but still great (we were mainly on the beach or in restaurant anyway). Storytelling out of this world.
