Provided a good Base from which to visit a very sick friend and National Trust properties. Slightly luxurious aspects helped a difficult trip

Nice spa and pool. Staff very friendly and helpful

Posted 25-Aug-2015
Our room was on the third floor, only had a roof window . It was very warm in the room, the window didn't open much been a sky light, but hotel is also near Manchester airport, so you can hear planes taking off every 10 minutes all day and night! Air conditioning in room was loud and not good either.Room let down our stay , very disappointed !

Friendly hotel near Taton Park

Posted 23-Aug-2015
We stayed here over night with our three children while attending a wedding at Taton Hall which was just a mere 5 min drive away. We've never been in a hotel so child friendly. They have special kids robes to match the adult ones and serve the little ones complimentary cookie and milk in the evenings!!!

Pleasant stay, but the bathroom was a bit worn-out

Posted 05-Aug-2015
Pros: Friendly, welcoming staff. Late night bar, with fair prices & real ales. Good tea / coffee making provisions. Midday check-out
Cons: Bathroom - sorely needed cleaning and fixing up. Only 1 small bottle of water provided in a twin room.
Location: Fantastic scenic location, just a short drive from Tatton Park and Dunham Massey.
We arrived late after a concert at the nearby Tatton Park (about midnight). I had phoned earlier in the day to advise them of our late arrival, and confirmed that this would not be an issue (I spoke to a lovely woman, Lizzi I think, who was incredibly friendly and helpful). Indeed we had no problems at all checking in this late; the Reception desk was unmanned when we arrived, but we spoke to the bartender in the adjacent hotel bar and he phoned the night porter to come down and meet us. We then stayed for a few drinks in the bar (which serves until late-late, and payment is taken from the £50 deposit card payment made on check-in). The bartender was an absolute star, serving us with a smile even in the early hours of the morning! Our room was well-furnished, with everything we could need for a short stay (including TV, high quality tea / coffee making provisions, and recycling bins). We stayed in a twin room as it was the only option left when we booked at short notice, but the 2 single beds had already been pushed together. The room itself was clean and well kept, however the bathroom really let it down. It looked very tired and worn-out; grubby tiles and plughole, grouting and sealant was dirty and sorely needed redoing, shower-head leaked out the side. Certainly not the standard I would expect from a hotel of that calibre (and price range). On a more positive note, all the staff we encountered during our stay were excellent, and you can't argue with midday check-out!

It could have been so different...

Posted 28-Jul-2015
I booked directly on the phone through Expedia as I wanted a twin room plus an extra bed for myself and two boys for just one night. Expedia called the hotel directly to ensure this would happen. However after checking in and entering the room this had not happened. A couple of calls down to reception and a bit of a wait in the room, with two agitated kids, for an extra bed, ended up with an upgrade, complimentary drinks for my whole family (two other rooms) as well as fluffy robes and milk with biscuits for the kids!! The staff were lovely and very apologetic. Very pleased with the outcome...it could've been so different! Thank you.

Overrated hotel

Posted 06-May-2015 on Hotels
The rooms at Cottons are dated and not very comfortable. The water in the showers always go from a few seconds of hot water to a few seconds of cold water. I've stayed at Cottons quite a few times, so it is not in only a room, most of them have a problem with the water in the showers. The staff is nice and friendly, unfortunately service is normally terrible so expect to have a long wait until your dinner is served...
