An average hotel with some nice touches

Posted 04-May-2016
Pros: The small touches, like cookies and milk brought to the room every evening.
Cons: The toilet had a really weak flush.
Location: The hotel isn't within walking distance of anything, but it is a 5-minute drive to the centre of town where there are lots of nice restaurants.
When it comes down to it, the Cottons Hotel & Spa is like the average chain hotel, like a Travelodge, Days Inn, or SpringHill Suites. But it offers some very nice touches: children's bathrobes, cookies and milk brought to the room every evening, good hotel-wide internet service, and a pool that the whole family can enjoy. The bed, including mattress and pillows, was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. And they have a great shower, with excellent water pressure, and an easy one-touch on-off button that I've never seen elsewhere. The pullout bed wasn't as comfortable, of course. The "family room" we were given was just a room with a pullout bed. On the down side, the staff are not the most well trained. We rang and rang for room service and no one picked up. When we ate in the restaurant, they never knew what kind of soup of the day they had. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived after 3 p.m. On our first night, there was a rowdy wedding party surrounding our room. Guests kept going across the corridor to each other's rooms, slamming doors, laughing, shouting way into the night, and early the next morning. When I asked if we could change our room, the representative said no (understandable because the hotel was full) but she was also completely unapologetic, and just looked annoyed that I had asked. In fact, that was the basic attitude of everyone at the front desk.

Good hotel.old parts shabby

Posted 23-Feb-2016 on Hotels
Hotel seemed professional. Like they had done it for years and got it off to a fine standard.problem is the room was shabby round the edges and the newer rooms are significantly better so felt a little short changed as I was part of a wedding celebration and wanted the room to be as perfect as the day

Hotel was veryu good apart from the breakfast. I thought this was over priced and had a poor range of options. Very little in the way of fruit and choice of pastries. Hot food to order was good though.

Overnight stay for Business

Posted 06-Feb-2016 on Hotels
The Hotel staff were polite and helpful, the room was comfortable and the breakfast of a good quality. As I was staying there for business I was not able to take advantage of the Spa and pool this trip. Would like to visit again.

Great value spa hotel

Posted 30-Jan-2016 on Hotels
I booked here for a spa weekend with my mother and sister. We used all the facilities when we stayed. The restaurant was great, really nice food, and friendly staff. The pool and outdoor jacuzzi were excellent, it is kid friendly as a hotel so you do get children but it's spacious enough to not be annoying. Nice steam room too. The spa was excellent, lovely and relaxing and excellent treatments.

We attended an evening wedding reception. The food was absolutely lovely. We ate in the bar in the afternoon, again the food was beautiful. The bed was very comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. The coffee and tea making facilities were excellent and the wifi strength was again excellent.

Heating in room wasn't working properly when we arrived but hotel fixed that and afterwards stay was pleasant and uneventful. Staff very pleasant. Hotel has had something of a refurb - eg new carpets - since our last stay 2 years ago. Spa still very good.
