This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. We still had 3 really nice beach days which was a short walk away from the house. That being said there were some down sides. Being ON duck road made the deck experience null as relaxing or sitting on your phone was drowned out from the noise from commuter traffic. Also, the decks, outside, and underneath of the property was littered with spiders which we cleared with a broom the first day only to have them return with full webs the next morning - the property really needs sprayed by pest control which we saw other properties being sprayed during our stay so this is a necessary step for this area. Thankfully they didn't make it into the house other than one of our shoes in the foyer which we'd already been checking them before wearing just in case. Beds were too firm for comfort, pillows were flat, and having only blinds in the windows (no curtains) made for unavoidable early wakeups when the sun hit the house (avg of 6am). Also the hammock area in the back had its spider issues but the hammock itself had calcified bits underneath so we didnt trust laying on it for cleanliness and safety (possible dryrot we didn't want to be responsible for busting through). With a little more care this would have been a much more comfortable experience. ##### Craig Y.
