Should have paid $20 more for a "known" motel name Posted 12-Nov-2013
The motel was close to the venue, which served us well as we were unfamiliar with the city. Upon arrival, our room was not as we had booked and we were asked to wait until a smoking room was made ready - no problem. We were given the room key for the room they'd booked us in, so that we could come in from the rain and use the facilities - great! However, when we entered the room we were to be staying in, it was AWFUL. I have stayed in a few 'smoking' rooms before, and yes I know they have an odour not found in non-smoking rooms, but this room was uninhabitable. My daughter immediately covered her face and left the room. The attendant came to "inspect" the room and agreed that we could move to the original 'non-smoking' room they had booked us in. This room was 'ok' as far as the smell and clean area; however, it was freezing cold, the heater was not working until we called the front desk and they turned on the breaker - upon which time a blast of dust and particles flew up out of the vents in the heater. The bathroom was also clean enough, but the caulking around the sink and tub was lifting and there was mould everywhere. At this point we decided to quickly change into our outfits for the evening's concert and pack our things back into the car. We made the 3 hour drive home after the concert in lieu of staying the night at this motel. Yes, I will pay the $20 higher rate for a "known" motel if I find myself with a last minute need for an out-of-town overnight stay!
