The Quillett is a wonderful 350 year old traditional thatched cottage, just a mile from South Milton National Trust Beach. The cottage is perfectly situated to explore this idyllic rural area of the South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Fully renovated, but in keeping with its heritage, its a very comfortable cottage for relaxing holiday by the sea. Steps lead up to the large traditional door, into the spacious lounge with a large inglenook fireplace. The lounge has two double sofas, an arm chair, dining table and chairs, 42 inch Smart TV, blue--tooth stereo and DVD. A few steps down from the lounge is a well-equipped farmhouse style kitchen with a small breakfast table and chairs, which looks out to the front of the cottage. Steps lead out of the lounge, to a sunny patio area with seating and continue up through the pretty winding cottage garden to a second secluded patio area with dining table and chairs to catch the evening sun. There is off-road parking area at the back of the property accessed via a private lane. The bathroom is half way up the stairs, and includes a roll top bath and a separate shower unit. Further upstairs, there is a good size main bedroom with a king size bed and plenty of storage. The cosy second bedroom has twin single beds with a built in wardrobe and drawers. Both bedrooms look out on to pretty garden areas. Our bedrooms are in the alcoves of the cottage with sloping ceilings. The property includes electric radiators in addition to a wonderful large wood-burning stove. Bed linen and towels are included in the rental, along with a complementary basket of logs for the fire in the winter season. The cottage is strictly no smoking and sorry, we do not take pets. CAUTION: We have a lot of steps & an awkward staircase so it is not suitable for those with walking difficulties South Milton village is a traditional village with a beautiful old church and village hall. The local National Trust beach is a delightful family beach , famous for Thurlestone Rock and walking distance from the house. The village is equi-distant between Kingsbridge , a bustling market town, set on the beautiful river estuary and Salcombe, with its beaches and prime coastal position. The famous surfing beach of Bantham is only 2-3 miles along the coast with Agatha Christie's Burgh island within sight. This area of South Devon is loved for its rugged cliffs, sandy coves, peaceful countryside, pretty villages, rolling hills, secretive estuaries and dark night skies. The South-West coast path is at its most beautiful here. There are lovely walks each way on the coast path from the cottage itself. We especially like Hope Cove - a lovely fisherman's cove with great eateries and spectacular views as well as the winding coast path round to Bantham surf beach via Thurlestone , overlooking the river estuary and Burgh island. There is lots to do in the area from visits to naval historical towns Dartmouth & Plymouth to delightful Totnes. There are lots of activities for children on the doorstep as well as further afield. And last , but not least , a plethora of pubs, cafes and restaurants to frequent! CAUTION : The cottage has a lot of steps inside and out , with a windy staircase which has a rope hand-hold - it is not suitable for anyone unsteady on their feet. Flexible changeover days and short breaks are available! Electric car charge available at the cottage - charged at weekly flat rate, added convenience in an area very short on charger points! ## Property amenities ### Beach - Beach nearby - Beach loungers ### Internet - Available in the cottage: Free WiFi ### Parking and transport - Electric car charging station on site - Car recommended - Parking on site ### Kitchen - Coffee/tea maker - Cookware, dishware, and utensils - Dishwasher - Electric kettle - Hob - Microwave - Oven - Paper towels - Refrigerator - Spices - Toaster ### Dining - Dining table ### Bedrooms - 2 bedrooms - Bedsheets provided ### Bathroom - 1 bathroom - Bathtub - Hair dryer - Shower - Soap - Toilet paper - Towels provided ### Living spaces - Dining table - Fireplace - Living room - Wood stove ### Entertainment - Books - Games - Music library - Smart TV with cable/satellite channels - Stereo ### Outdoor areas - Barbecue grill - Garden - Outdoor furniture - Patio ### Laundry - Laundry facilities - Washing machine ### Comfort - Heating ### Pets - No pets allowed ### Suitability/Accessibility - Smoke-free property ### Services and conveniences - Iron/ironing board - Phone ### Location highlights - In a rural location - In a village - Near the sea ### Things to do - Birdwatching nearby - Cycling nearby - Hiking/biking trails nearby - Sailing nearby - Snorkelling nearby - Surfing/bodyboarding nearby - Swimming nearby - Windsurfing nearby ### Safety features - Carbon monoxide detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a carbon monoxide detector on the property; consider bringing a portable detector) - Smoke detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a smoke detector on the property) - Fire extinguisher ### General - Electric car charging station - Garden - Unit size: 827 square feet ## Policies ### Check-in Check-in time starts at 4:00 PM ### Check-out Check-out before 10:00 AM ### Special check-in instructions You will receive an email from the host with check-in and check-out instructions ### Check-out instructions The host requires you to complete the following before checking out: Load and start the dishwasher Gather used towels Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish Turn off the lights and lock the doors Please leave keys in key safe Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host. ### Pets Pets not allowed ### Children and extra beds Children are welcome Note from host: Open staircase areas with lots of steps ### Events No events allowed ### Smoking Smoking is not permitted ## Important information ### You need to know This property is managed by a private host (a party not acting within their trade, business or profession). It is a beautiful cottage and one of the only places we’ve stayed which is exactly as it looks and us described in the listing. We had a very comedy stay, perfect location, and everything we needed for the week. The directions for arrival were excellent and really helped us find the cottage. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage. ##### Charlotte S. The roll-top bath was luxurious and the bed super-comfy. Driving the country lanes required a bit of patience in the dark winter days but there was plenty of lovely places to visit in the local area. ##### Adam G. The cottage is comfortable and roomy but not too big. Just big enough. The kitchen had everything we needed including doing some laundry. Its on a busy road but the cars driving by were not very frequent. If you are a foreigner like myself prepare yourself for the single lane country roads that have a high speed limit, you need nerves of steel if you are not use to it! ##### Scott E. Stayed 4 nights in Sep 2024 ### 8/10 Good #### Joanne S., Manchester 9 Aug 2023 Liked: Check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Enjoyed my stay The property looks lovely from the outside. I know its an old property and its probably because I'm scared stupid but there was a lot of spider webs around the cottage. But I have to say we had a great stay really enjoyed ourselves. Just a pity there isnt a pub in the village. ##### Joanne S. Pretty little garden at the back, sheltered from road at front which is busy. Bedrooms also at back, so are quiet. Thatched roof keeps the cottage pleasantly cool in hot weather. Lots of stairs and steps so suited only to those with good mobility. Excellent walks and beaches from the door or within an hour’s travel, and some beautiful gardens to visit in the area. Good communication from owner. We really enjoyed our stay; had no problems at all and would highly recommend. ##### R Q. Just a couple of points to note. One of the small glasses was cracked so I put in the bin, The coffee machine leaks water when left after use, so needs emptying after use. Hairdryer cuts out after a short while of use. ##### Leslie W. Stayed 6 nights in Sep 2023 ### 10/10 Excellent #### John England 10 Jun 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Charming cottage in South Hams, Devon Clean, cosy, well equipped cottage in peaceful location on edge of hamlet of South Milton. Ample off-road parking for one car in safe bay at rear of property. Back garden is a pretty flower-filled suntrap where we enjoyed al fresco breakfasts and dinners. Didn't hear a sound from the neighbours but lots of birdsong! A mile walk to the coast path or short drive to National Trust car park there. It's a great location to see such a lot of the local delights without having to drive far, including NT properties of Colyton Fishacre, Greenway (Agatha Christie's house), and Overbecks gardens. Plus idyllic Salcombe and Dartmouth and the wonderful coastal paths on this west side of the South Hams. ##### John England Stayed 7 nights in Jun 2023 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Richard W. 7 Jul 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Quaint, quirky and comfy. The Quillet was just as described and had everything we needed for a an11 night stay. Communication from first booking to leaving the cottage was excellent. A minor snag was immediately dealt with by the neighbour via owner. With had no issues with parking car ( largish SUV) at property We were aware of the steps and stairs, good mobility is needed but as a fit couple in our late 70’s we had no problem. The stairs were ‘interesting’ The cottage is in a beautiful area, with wonderful coastal path walks with many small and pretty bays. We were impressed with Dartmouth and further afield, Plymouth A different style of driving is needed on the narrow country lanes Parking in NT and other car parks is a challenge. Some wanted cash only ( no change ), others card only and others phone only. All in all a very enjoyable stay and excellent weather as a bonus. Thank you ##### Richard W.
