Nice, quaint hotel - close to the bay and cliffs!

Posted 18-Jul-2017
Pros: Quaint /old style hotel. Very nice host. Nice breakfast in the morning. Convenient location.
Cons: Update decor and furniture. The wifi was weak in my room, although fine in the halls (just a bad spot).
Location: Many restaurants along the water. (10-15 min walk) 10-15 min walk to the start of the cliffs park.
The hotel manager, Robert, was great -- very hospitable and accommodating. He seemed to be doing a lot of the work in the hotel and did his best to customize it for each guest. The hotel is cozy but felt a bit dated. The room (pink room) itself was a bit small and also had bit of a dated feel. Our bathroom was in the hallway, but a private for us only. Wasn't horribly inconvenient, but understandable since the building must be over a 100 years old. We had great views of the sea and overall the room was comfortable enough for 2 nights, especially for the price it is offered at.

Fawlty Towers in the offing

Posted 08-Jul-2017
Pros: Nearly unreconstructed 1950s guest house. Deserves a preservation order
Cons: Everything or nothing
Location: Very convenient for the car ferry. Dover could do with a complete makeover. Typified by the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club.
It just about did the job; and perhaps I should not have expected more at the price. Friendly staff.

Great hotel, close to beach. Parking tight

Present and relaxing hotel good view of Bay. Beach 1/2 mile away, Dover Castle easily to drive to. Off street Parking is hard to negotiate with very little room between cars.

Lovely friendly and comfortable hotel

Beautiful Victorian/Regency townhouse right on Dover seafront kept in traditional style. Very helpful and friendly landlady (Cathy). If returning to Dover we would book again. Perfectly cooked full English breakfast too. If you want modern, not for you, but if you want style and a friendly welcoming place to stay go to Loddington House.

Okay for a night...

Posted 25-Oct-2016
Location: As stated walking distance to ferry which we needed and we did walk to Dover castle so convenient for us.
Manager a little strange and facility has seen better days. Has all the basics you need but lots of cobwebs and dust on light fixtures and fans. Breakfast was excellent. View of sea was okay but so close to ferry port so there was a lot of truck and traffic noise...not exactly waking up to gentle lapping of sea against the shore.

Quiet, convenient place to stay

Posted 15-Oct-2016
Pros: The owner, Robert, is an absolutely charming, friendly and welcoming gentleman who understands exactly the concept of personalised customer service.
Cons: Absolutely nothing to dislike.
Location: The building is on a quiet residential street just above the port - the ferry terminal is barely 5 minutes walk away. There are no restaurants nearby.
Massive period room with high ceiling - bags of character as it dated from the 1830s (so the owner told me). The bathroom/toilet was separate, down the landing, but reserved for the exclusive use of that room. There was no shower, only a bath. The bedroom had a wash basin and tea/coffee-making facilities. The cooked breakfast was delicious and served in a lovely airy morning room overlooking the port and facing the sun (if there is any - there was when I stayed!).

Lovely and convenient hotel

Posted 26-Sep-2016 on Hotels
The hotel is lovely and the owner and staff are very friendly. It is very close to the White Cliffs and 10 minutes walk to the town centre. The only downside is that the bed is too soft for me and the soundproof of the room is not great - mainly due to the age of the property.
