When I arrived, I was shocked to discover that the room I was checked into was dirty and the bed was not made up. This was unacceptable, as cleanliness is one of the most important factors for me when choosing a hotel

The condition of the room was horrendous. The carpets were badly stained and in a terrible condition. The room did not look like it had been cleaned properly prior to my stay an example being fingerprints over anything that was glass. The bedding was also not in the best condition either and marked.

Initial impression was very nice as Hotel on beautiful grounds but the room was disgusting , Room was filthy , Bathroom ceiling looked like it was going to collapse , Cupboards were filthy and obviously had not been cleaned for ages , There was a half eaten tub of old ice cream in the bar fridge. TV did not work , 1 towel , Hotel needs some hands on management to sort out the tardiness and pay attention to detail and get management to get involved and act interested , the rooms need some TLC

Room wasnice however there were random faults in the room. One bedside lamp did not work and the other had a damaged lampshade. The plug by the fridge was literally hanging off the wall. Not safe with a toddler. Lastly we had no hot water the following morning at 08.30am when we went for a shower. Not enjoyable at all.

Quiet area and beautiful views. Checkin was easy with friendly staff. The room itself was elegant . Breakfast was delicious. On the other hand , I had to change rooms because a lot was wrong: door was not opening properly , batteries maybe . TV was not switching on , aircon giving problems, coffee station missing. I mean...🙄🙄

Firstly when we got there to check in, they said my booking was not paid for. But i paid for it the previous night with my credit card, yet they still made me show them the proof of payment. Then they gave me room 106. We went to our room and wanted to make tea but there was no kettle, only 1 cup, no milk and bottle water. And there wasnt a hairdryer or soap. We tried to call reception but the phone in the room wouldn't work so i used my cell phone and whatever items wasnt in the room, I requested for them to bring it. So they brought the stuff for us. But then we noticed the rooms were dirty as if it hasnt been maintained. There were spider webs on the bedside lamps and in the bathroom as well. From the previous time i stayed there compared to now, the standard has dropped drastically. We were so put off by the state of the room that we went home that night instead of staying for the night that we paid for.

Great hotel, and a sophisticated room, however they were hosting a private event on the roof top which they failed to mention. Headboards, windows and picture frames rattling, bed vibrating from the loud music which only came to a halt at 1:30... office staff not reachable on the phone provided in the room or numbers listed online at the time. A fair warning prior to check in would have been the decent thing to do, as you don’t expect booking into a luxury hotel and having it sound like a muffled club bathroom till the early hours of the morning. My stay was definitely non-relaxing. Great venue, my experience just wasn’t pleasant.

NEEDS A MAINTAINANCE REVIEW
If this was a 3 star it would get v good, it was once an VERY GOOD hotel but has not been maintained, carpets stained/worn, curtains stained--even stained bed linen on the bed. The staff are helpful but clearly do not know how to set table,although menu is fine --poor breakfast selection. GOOD location and amenities are good. It appears that occupation is low and therefore budgets cut to the bone and this results in this no longer being a 5 star

A serene experience.
A beautiful and well maintained hotel with lovely gardens. The hotel overlooks a lake with lots of birds. Loved the big paintings, almost everywhere to be seen. Breakfast was a treat, though the range of the supper menu could be expanded on.

Definitely not 5 star
Location. This is the only reason the hotel worked for me. It is located in a quiet area, familiar to me and close to where I needed to be. At first glance the property looks great. Unfortunately, this does not follow through. The room was just ok, could benefit greatly from an upgrade. Sparse dated interiors, worn stained carpets and upholstery. Poor plumbing. No in room WiFi. Not consistent in replacing toiletries, water etc. Restaurant was hit and miss. Breakfast was on occasion a buffet. Continental breakfast consisted of cereals, fruit, cold cuts, cheese and yogurt. The food and drinks were not kept chilled or properly covered, often visited by flies. Service was practically non existent. The runners on the tables were always dirty, attracting flies. The staff tried to be helpful once asked but, it seemed they could not cope. The restaurant was never busy, especially dinner time. I can see why. I had to wait 40 minutes one evening for the menu to be printed and another 30 minutes to be served. Sad. This hotel has a lot of potential but it is just not functioning properly in any areas. The pool was empty due to a leak and the roof in the hotel was leaking. The shower faucet in one room sprayed all over the bathroom except for inside the shower. There was often no bottled still water available.

We found that this hotel was anything but a signature Hotel & Spa. We are not quiet sure how it qualifies to be a 4 star hotel. The walls in reception have cracks, the furniture is scuffed and dirty, the grass outside was long and uncut, the pool was green and their were broken tiles in the restaurant. The room provided had old and very used linen. The attitude of management was unaccommodating in any way. I can honestly state that our experience was not great. I would definitely recommend giving this place a miss.

A friendly home from home experience
I had experienced a frightful journey by Air France from Paris and was so tired that I could hardly stay awake as I registered at this delightful hotel. The receptionist understood and had noticed my delayed flight on the web site. She told me to get straight off to bed and have a meal whenever I woke up. The dining room staff were delightful and the food was made to order and among the best i have ever eaten. I love this place! The bedroom and bathroom were huge and well fitted out

Beautiful grounds, attentive and courteous staff
Great for leisure, perhaps not the greatest for business. The WiFi unfortunately left much to be desired, but the attentiveness of the staff, the service provided, and the beauty of the grounds were enough for me to recommend this hotel to family and friends traveling for leisure in Johannesburg.

Good place, decent value, clean, safe
Hotel adjacent to highway, fairly windy drive up the hill in a suburb close to al, you need and in the midst of shopping and restaurant district. Walking out! Car 3 min drive. Good security, safe parking on huge grounds. Room are enormous, all cons on site. Nice pool, friendly staff. One of the better ones in the east of Johannesburg, 10 min off the airport. Will use as base from now, good place. Conference, Golf or other event hotel, very little to do with family or as a couple.

What a rip off......Pity I can't show you my photos versus those on the website. First appearances are everything and with the grass not cut for about two weeks my first impressions were already tainted. When I enquired why it was so tatty the porter told me it made too much noise for the guests to cut it. Moving onto our room. It was bare but for a bed in the corner and a huge headboard. Two small chairs trying to look big in the other corner with a cheap box print picture on the wall. The mirror was stuck directly to the wall with a bit of paint sticking to it. No showerheads in the shower - just plain pipes. A bath was hiding in another corner and the toilet window had construction dirt all over it. The lighting was either fluorescent or LED's which made the place about as warm and inviting as a school hostel. Having said that, you would be lucky if the light bulb actually worked. When I asked where the rooms where that were depicted on the website, I was told those were superior rooms and mine was only a Luxury Room. Heaven forbid I get a standard room! Would have to bring my own duvet, which probably not a bad ideas as the one on our bed did not go beyond the top of the mattress. Food was excellent but given the cost I should hope so. It was also less than romantic with those fluorescent lights. All round - a complete waste of money and a disappointing Valentines Day "treat".

Nice location
The location and grounds were nice. Renovation was going on so there was some confusion associated with that. The experience of the staff was just so-so and if improved would have helped the experience. The room was big but awkwardly furnished...they didn't hire a good interior designer if at all. Definitely not 5 star but still nice. The restaurant was nice and the staff were friendly but still need more experience to help the cause. The wifi worked fine and was fast.

Initially at check in they couldn't locate my booking. Apparently Expedia bookings are some times dropped. I had my printed receipt on me, so they had to honor it. Fortunately they had an extra room, but housekeeping had to turn it over. Was delayed about 15min as a result. Internet at this place is woeful. Very patch coverage. Room was meant to come with water, but I had to call and remind them. They didn't replace it after day 1. Breakfast was nice and the compound has a nice outlook and is secure. This hotel is meant to be five stars, but the attention do detail doesn't warrant this rating. Maybe it is an African five stars?
