We came here because of the advertising for surfing beach. However when we arrived there was a permanent sign on the gate going to the beach with no swimming. Turns out this is for expert surfers. Not for family's. Morning staff not friendly. Had to bring a broken coffee maker to front desk because my machine was broke and she gave me another broken one. Then blamed it on me and walked me back to room to only discover it was broken. No apology. This place would be excellent for professional surfers.

Our Cafe Britt capsule coffee machines are all brand new and in proper working order. First we are in mid to late 60’s age range. No breakfast was advertised and there was a great place for eating within walking distance(short). But it is very hot at Beaches now, so even for us a short walk and we were covered in sweat. Also they do have some snacks in refrigerator in room, but charge a little high for chips and candy bars.Our superior room was great with sounds and views of ocean. TV’s only with about 2 English Channels..odd in tourist location. Had Britt Keurig cup type machine in room which was great except we were told that each room got 3 kcups daily.. then you had to pay for more. Dorm sized refrigerator in room.. no microwave. When asked front desk for a washcloth were given like an American hand towel.We would stay there again only for views and it was pet friendly. Nothing else

We felt like we were in our own mini resort. The hotel only has 8 rooms (2 suites and 6 jr suites), and all with balconies & ocean views. The pool was relaxing and the ocean just steps away. Away from the chaos of Jaco. We absolutely loved our stay here.

It is apparent that the owner takes good care of the people and property. The front desk (Chelsie) went above and beyond to help schedule and navigate the area. The room and facilities were very clean. Highly recomended.

Very comfortable beds. The beach is not crowded, we enjoy the privacy. The grounds around the hotel are very well maintained. We could walk to a few restaurants and the food was great. Would stay there again. Highly recommend.

Great location on the beach, Security monitored
The Backyard Hotel was a great stay — very safe (security monitored 24x7 with gates operated by security), on the beach (we slept to the sound of the waves!), and all activities picked us up from the hotel (we had multiple choices of activities and time options). Apart from the location, right on Hermosa Beach and multiple restaurants less than 5 mins walk away + Jaco downtown 10 mins drive away, Chelsea at the front desk and the rest of the hotel staff made our stay truly memorable!! We gave Chelsea the list of activities that we wanted to do (texted on WhatsApp) and Chelsea took care of everything, incl some additional activities that we decided on once we got there! Chelsea was extremely efficient in taking care of everything and had the various providers come to the hotel for pickup and drop-off. We didn’t need a rental car at all, and we made the most of every minute of our vacation! Overall I can’t say enough about the team and location of Backyard Hotel! If you’re looking for an easy, laid-back vacation by the beach where everything is taken care of by an efficient team, then this is the place! Highlight recommend!!

The hotel was clean and secure. The staff was super helpful navigating the language barrier and country. Chelsea and the other staff at the front desk made you feel welcome. The black sand beach is just a few steps from the hotel. The pool and grounds are clean and personal. I think all the rooms have an ocean view and balcony. The only thing I would say could help perfect the stay is a coffee maker( there is an expresso machine). The hotel is also close to major road. Our personal experience was amazing and we will be back.

The staff at this hotel were very professional and friendly. The hotel.is very secure. There are cameras and someone on duty at night time while you come in and out. This hotel is located right in front of beach. The grounds are very well taken care of. The room is basic but you have such a good view from the balcony and even laying in the bed. The only thing negative i would say is the water pressure in bathroom sink is low. And the air-condition return blew hot air towards the sitting area. Which made it uncomfortable to sit on.

This hotel was so cute. We felt super safe in the hotel as theres overnight security. Very chill and great vibes. My FIANCE proposed to me right out on the beach and the front desk helped him get a photographer capture the whole thing. We had a great experience.

We stayed here for a night on the way back to San Jose, from the south. We wanted to shorten our drive to the airport the next day and this place was recommended . Nice clean hotel, comfortable bed. Pretty beach. Good restaurant in easy walking distance.

This place has so much potential! The bathroom was terrible! Really need to update and sort it out! A little bug problem but - carpenter ants - not good with all the wood! Furniture is old and beat up. Not enough closet space at all! And no English speaking tv channels when all the guest were English speaking lol we checked out early to stay in a more expensive hotel- jaco beach bars and restaurants are extremely over priced compared to the restaurant stripe just minutes away.

We stayed at Backyard Hotel for a week. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it was perfect for a beach stay. The room are a little dated. Not all of the lights worked. The hairdryer didn’t work. When staff was notified, it was fixed immediately. Very nice, large balconies, with beach view. Very quiet and remote, away from the hustle and bustle of Jaco. Grounds were well manicured. The pool was clean and refreshing. Back gate opens right up to the beach. There are 8 rooms and 8 parking spots. We rented a car from Alamo and always had a spot. They arranged hotel shuttle to and from airport for us, at $130 each way. Fridge was stocked with snacks and drinks and cleaning service did a great job daily. We would certainly stay here again.

The location of this hotel was incredible. We had a large room for our family of 6 with balconies and beautiful views of the black sand beach. We loved being steps away from the ocean! The pool was very nice as well. The room itself was functional, but pretty worn down. Many of the light fixtures were missing bulbs and some of the switches didn't work at all. Everything felt a little tired and old. But again, the views were totally worth it!

This property is literally in the jungle. It was an amazing experience. There are monkeys around the property and everything. The food and drinks at the hotel restaurant were very good, and the rooms are nothing fancy, but they are clean and nice.

Our suite faced and was very close to the beach. You could not beat the view. The balcony was very large with a picnic table and bench. Ask for room 208. The one improvement would be to update the bathroom.
