Ok, but not worth the high cost
I usually stay at another hotel when I visit Istanbul, but decided to try something new on this trip...and upon arrival, regretted my decision. Not only is it more expensive than my regular choice, but it offers much less. It is also situated in a less-than-savoury location. It is situated on a road that is noisy and full of hardware shops. The staff were generally rather unfriendly and not very helpful. And the breakfast, that was the bigger issue for me. No complimentary breakfast, instead, residents must pay 30 lira a day for the breakfast buffet, which is not that great and not worth the money. It's the first hotel I have ever stayed at that doesn't offer complimentary breakfast to residents, that's rather poor for the high cost.
The room was clean and presentable, but the hotel was rather lacking in amenities, with not even coffee/tea facilities in the room. In fact, the room itself was the only near-positive part of staying here, however, the thin walls mean that you can pretty much hear everything your neighbours are getting up to. The view was pretty ok though.
On my next Istanbul visit, I shall be returning to my usual choice which is cheaper, well kept, beautiful, and situated in a nice area and close to all the big sights...with an amazing complimentary breakfast. I wouldn't recommend the Golden City hotel to anyone. Stay in Sultanahmet, it's much more pleasant.
