On arrival, we were given the wrong room. This was rectified however the room we were given had a terribly strong unpleasant smell. It came from the drainage. The hotel staff spray air freshener but this only masked the smell for a short anount of time. We were offered complimentary breakfast for our inconvenience. The size of our room was great and the staff did the best they could but overall the stay was very underwhelming. I will add that the staff at breakfast were particularly welcoming.

Disappointing
The hotel is tired with dirty carpets. The customer service at check in, reception and the bar were not very good. No expected added extras such as shower caps, water etc in the room. Stayed at Novotel in Leeds and it was lovely.

Nice hotel in convenient location
Nice enough hotel. Fairly basic and a little overpriced. Room in need of some refurbishment. The bathroom was good. All staff very polite and helpful.

Great stay
Quiet and comfortable stay. Great sized room and clean. The staff were pleasant and helpful. A lovely little surprise in the room as being selected as 'guest of the week'!

Would eat/drink here but not sleep.
Staff were lovely, the lobby was warm and welcoming and the bar/restaurant were very comfortable. In regards to the room - the main shower head was very obviously in need of replacing or at least cleaning and there was a noise coming from above us that sounded like a washing machine which started in the evening and ended in the morning, I only slept a few hours because it kept me up. I tried Novotel because I fancied a change from our usual hotel choice but I don't think I'll go here again.

Feels like quite a standard business type hotel. The room was quite large and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I paid for breakfast which was ok, but not good value and I think a better breakfast can be found at a nearby cafe. Walkable to the centre of town and from the train station makes the location fairly convenient.

Overnight stay for night out.
Nice hotel, very clean and modern. Nice bar area, friendly and helpful staff. Room was good, queen sized bed. Had separate toilet and bathroom which was useful. Overall a great experience.

The room was a good size with plenty of faciities. I must admit though that the separate toilet was not ideal, especially as there was no hand basin in there. The bed was quite hard but not too bad. Our fridge was not working, the coffee machine only had decaffeinated pods and the safe door was stuck shut. Once reported to reception all were fixed very quickly. We were disapointed that the beer pumps were not in use at the bar as they were charging over £4 for a tiny bottle of lager. We only had one drink there! Breakfast was ok although the orange juice was so watered down it had no flavour. We probably would not stay again because we probably would not go back to Ipswich, Other Novotel's we have stayed in have been better.

Dear Jane, I am sorry for the issues you mention. Unfortunately as the building is over 30 years old we are unable to change the layout of the room. Regarding the issue with the orange juice we do not water down the juice. The issues you mentioned I believe was sorted out straight away when this was reported. Due to an issue within our cellar which is out of the hotels control we are currently unable to serve draught beer. I am sorry to see that you would not be returning to the hotel. Kind Regards

Breakfast was inedible. Coffee at breakfast completely undrinkable (foam and hot water with no coffee). Loud party in room next door. A mini bus had recently arrived with scantily-clad girls who then went up to the room next door. Loud laughter and party came from the room. Thankfully the staff were great and sent security to end the party

Yes, Novotel!
A wonderful stay but my friends & I (we occupied at least 7-8 rooms) would have enjoyed it even more had more bar/restaurant service been available to us. On the day we all departed 23 June, we couldn't buy a coffee nor food as they couldn't except cards for payment. The hotel lost out on revenue as 6-8 of us wanted lunch & drinks. Otherwise a perfect stay. I'd stay here again
