we paid for the second level of room (aka not the most basic. . . just one level up). the room was renovated. had a view. and a spacious private balcony. so was better than we were expecting. we were there just two nights. . . and the walls are QUITE thin. for us it was really no bother, but had i stayed any longer i don't think i would have managed.
food was hit and miss. afternoon tea/cakes were leftover cakes which i actually appreciate from a conservation standpoint. at breakfast eggs were great, as was whichever fresh fruit was available. meats/cheeses not as nice as other hotels we'd been. dinner was hit and miss--lots of overcooked veg set out on cold plates as part of the appetizer spread. had a stew one night and the beef was beautifully cooked. partner got a beef dish the next night and it was gray. weiner shnitzel also a bit gray (and belabored). however, had a beautiful plate of bresoala salad, so.... hit and miss.
