Convenient Hotel, But There Are Better In Houston

We're Gold members so usually try to stay at Hilton hotels, but our experience at the Sam Houston was great enough to make us stay there again. We arrived a couple of hours early and they told us we couldn't check in because it started at 3pm, which is fine. We went for lunch and came back at 2:30 and they told us they still didn't have a room available. Then a couple came right after us and they checked them in with no problem. The person assisting me said that couple had checked in online before arriving, but gave us a room right after he finished with them so it wasn't too bad. The awful thing, and reason why I wouldn't stay there, is the noise from the street. There seemed to be a metal plate in the street and every time cars would pass by, it made an annoying sound. That sound was so frequent and upsetting that I got a headache and couldn't rest well. My friends on the 7th floor (we were on 5th) heard it too and mentioned the same complaint to me even before I brought it up to them. The area is also really weird with a shelter right across from the hotel so there are tons of people sleeping on the streets.
