The property and the service was fantastic. Check in and check out were fast. Everyone working here is very friendly and helpful, willing to go the extra mile to help guests and make their stay great. The beach is not the best, as it mainly consists of huge rock formations. The pools had more debris (leaves and insects) than I would normally see, but it seems they staff was trying to skim the water. The rooms were spotless and the AC worked great! The food is very good and there is a variety of restautants so guests don't get bored. Try to make dinner before 8pm at the restaurants, otherwise you'll have to wait for a table. The drinks were not bad, liquor was good quality. This is a great place for couples and families alike, good for people of all ages.

Amazing Hotel - Exceeded All Expectations

Posted 20-Oct-2018
Pros: Food - There was plenty to eat and the quality of the food was amazing.
Cons: There is nothing I could offer up for improvement. Everything was perfect.
Location: For this vacation, I never left the hotel. There was plenty to do all during the day. At night, the show carried the night. Great entertainment.
I consider myself to be well traveled here in the US and abroad. In regards to Cancun, I have been to Cancun about 12 times. Each time, I have stayed at a different hotel. This was my first time staying at the Riu, and it was simply amazing and exceeded everything I could have asked for in a hotel. I have zero complaints about this property. The location was perfect, hotel staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was the best of any hotel I have ever stayed. Without fail, I will be back to the Riu. It was a great time and I have some wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.

I never write online reviews of places because it’s just too time consuming, but I felt like I had to warn people about staying at this property. The staff was not very accommodating. We got here and the noise level from the children was above average. We asked if there was a quiet area or adults only section and they advised that the Riu Palace Las Americas was adults only and just down the street. I called and checked if they had availability and they did. Unfortunately because I booked through Orbitz/Expedia, I needed to go through them. Called Orbitz and they said that because I already checked in they were unable to modify the reservation and that the hotel should be able to swap my reservation. After a few back and forth they stated that “they couldn’t due to the politics of the hotel management;” whatever that means. Quickly, food was below par (not seasoned if at all, over cooked most of the time). Staff was not knowledgeable as to their policies. Hotel was in need of some general painting. I tried other properties in the area for the day and my recommendation would be to stay at either the Riu Palace Las Americas (adults only) or Riu Palace Riviera Maya (allows children) in Playa del Carmen. Even though they’re Riu’s, the overall quality and hospitality are much better!
